I know a couple of NFL scouts who are assigned to the midwest region. It's not 100% for sure, but that's a strong rumor which is why they're looking at Butt and Lewis pretty hard.  Both weren't on the radar until this season.

I'll say this, Butt is more likely to leave than Lewis. Obviously, both can change their mind.  If the season were to end right now, they're entering the draft.

no clue where theyd be selected (im obviously not an nfl personnel exec or scout) but theyre both no doubt pro level athletes and performers.

i think lewis and butt have the tape out there to impress - maybe not 1st rounders, they both have areas they could improve, but def still pro players.  plus i think both guys have skill sets that could impress at the combine and that type setting.  theyre both legit athletes whod likely finish in top half of most drills even when competing vs the best of the best,  butt likely runs slower 40s than some past first 1-2 day guys but hes a solid player.  and lewis will always fight the size battle but hes won it thus far.  so i dont think combines would kill their stock if they jumped after decent seasons  (though im not huge on evaluating players and assigning worth based on their performances in gym shorts)

I agree it sucks, we could've/should've had both those kids, but with what we know about OL development under the previous staff I don't think much would've changed with them. We are clearly in much better hands now and I expect Kalis and Cole to both be in the mix for preseason All-American honors next year.

He tied Marlin Jackson's record for PBUs in a game on Saturday. He had 6 in that game alone. He had 6 in all of last season. The single season PBU record is 18 by Leon Hall and Marlin. Lewis has 14.

Well deserved but his strengths only hold up at the college level and he wont project well in the NFL until he gets exactly 15 more months of college coaching.  Also he is short, doesnt lift weights, and listens to Justin Beiber which would not go over well in NFL locker rooms.  Give him a year to change his music taste.

Willie Henry is probably a candidate for second team -- 6 sacks, 9 TFL already. Wormley I would think will be All Big Ten as he is already nearding double digit TFL. This defense has been really, really good. If Mo Hurst was an every down DL, he would be on par with Henry's statistics.

Lots of competition and depends if they classify those guys as ends or tackles.  If you are implying 2nd team NCAA for Henry then no, but 2nd team Big 10 they have a chance.

Nassib of PSU leads the nation with 15.5 TFL and sacks at 11.5 so he has 1st team NCAA locked down.

Bosa even with suspension has more TFL, Calhoun 7 sacks and more TFL, Smoot from Ill has 11.5 TFL.  Ngakoue from Maryland has 7 sacks, Mangieri from Indiana has 7. So they'd be in competition for 2nd team/3rd team Big 10 with this group.

Wormley sort of took a month off until these past 2 weeks after that roaring start - if he had been consistent all yr he probably would have been in Calhoun production range albeit with a diff body type.

There are going to be players that typically would deserve to be All-B1G that don't get it.

Carl Nassib leads the nation in sacks (11.5) and TFL (15.5) right now. Of course, he plays next to Zettel, who has 8 TFL and occupies a ton of attention from the offense, and rightfully so. Not to mention Austin Jackson, who has 40 tackles playing the Nose and 7.5 TFLs. Point being, PSU has three guys that could make a claim.

MSU has Shilique Calhoun, who will likely get picked in the first two rounds; he has 7 sacks on the year and 9.5 TFLs. He plays with Malik McDowell, who has been abusing a lot of opposing OGs this year (though Michigan had some success trapping him), though he only has 3 sacks to show for it and 6 TFLs.

Indiana has Nick Mangieri, a 3-4 DE with 7 sacks (2nd among B1G DL, tied with Calhoun) and 8 TFL.

Yannick Ngakoue has 6.5 sacks and probably had more success against Cole than anyone else (FWIW, Calhoun lined up over the RT almost all game). He's got 6.5 TFLs as well.

Michigan obviously has Willie Henry (6 sacks, 9 TFL) and Chris Wormley (2 sacks, 8 TFL), whose stats are likely lower because of how often they rotate and the players around them. But they've dominated people.

Iowa has a good group, with Nate Meier the most likely to receive post season honors right now (5.5 sacks, 7 TFLs). Ott was another strong force, but I believe is out for the year now after recording 5 sacks and 7.5 TFLs.

Then, of course, you have OSU's Washington (3 sacks, 5.5 TFLs) and Bosa (2.5 sacks, 9 TFL). I don't think Washington is living up to his billing since moving to the 3-tech and being the focus at that position, but don't let Bosa's lack of stats fool you, he is still dominating games and changing what offenses do consistently.

Then you have Nebraska. They have one of the best pair of DTs in college football, though the stats aren't showing it because teams are avoiding them largely. Collins may be the best DT in the B1G, though he only has 1.5 sacks and 3 TFL to date, he is constantly in the backfield (needs to stay in his lane better though, I think he's currently forcing it to try to make plays). Valentine only has 2 sacks and 2.5 TFLs, but that's another guy that is playing great football, despite the stats.

And there are more guys, Lewis from OSU, Gibson from Northwestern, LT at MSU, Glasgow at Michigan, Cockran at Minnesota, Odenigbo at Northwestern, Smoot from Illinois, etc. I just listed of 21 names that could legit make an argument. Even with 3 teams, that's only 12 players, some names are going to get left off (some because after a few known names, it comes down to pure stats and not how they've actually played).

Rutgers have Darius Hamilton who is out for the year, but he's a stud.  They have Kemoko Turay who is an athletic freak, but has been a huge disappointment this season. NFL scouts expected bigger things from him.

FWIW, Calhoun is being looked at as a 3rd/4th round pick. They think he's won't be a star, but would be a reliable backup players.

As for Michigan DL, they don't have a top flight DL, but all are really solid players. They believe that about 7 DL would project very well as a rotational player because of their ability to take on blockers and stop the run.

Lewis was my pick for the player I was most excited to see this season. He's absolutely been killing it. Ecstatic to see he's getting the national attention he deserves.

Selfishly I'd love to see him back next season, but it might be the smart decision to make the jump now. Maybe Peppers can convinve him to return.

For my own selfish reasons I hope he stays next year, as our secondary could be legendary next year with him. But if he plays at this kind of level all year, there's little to no reason he shouldn't make the jump to the next level.

It's a lot of money that could set you and your family up for life.

He's way too small to play in the pros, did you see the way he got torched against MSU, NFL scouts? Look away, nothing to see here. *please stay, please stay, please stay*

Clearly the worldwide leader didn't do their homework. Lewis has a lot of technique issues, not to mention the fact that he's too small to be successful in the NFL. Clearly just a sympathy vote on their part

Is it possible that he could declare and we could just borrow him for a little while? Would the NCAA and an NFL team be so generous? Thinking out loud just in case the reverse talk doesn't work here. This is an innovative board and I am sure we can figure out how to tiptoe around things such as league, conference or association rules.

It's our staff. Heck, there are pro teams that don't have coaches this good for him; hopefully that is a deciding factor and we get another year of Lewis in the Maize and Blue.
