If he wakes up tomorrow and postpones his announcement, Is that good or bad for Michigan?  I would say maybe not that great since our coaches had the chance to make a final impression on him recently.

There is a great article in SI from 5-26-80 about a great lineman from Fl Who choose UM over Stanford. He now according to Wiki (great source huh) is the Med director of a hospital in.... Spokane,Wa. It would be cool if Garnett knew about Stefan Humphries. Maybe he does. Maybe history will repeat itself tomorrow. Go Blue!

Or, the kid could just want to keep things 50/50 to the public since he has an announcement party planned by his twin sister...So it's a bit more fun and suspenseful than leaking where he's going just before. It's dramatic, but he deserves it and I'm sure the process hasn't been all fun for him. I still feel positive about the announcement...but then again, I don't know shit! Haha. Seems like an unbelievable kid and would represent the Maize n Blue tremendously

I hate to say it, but I tend to agree.  I'm a pre-med failure myself, and believe me it's hard to succeed in those courses without any extracurriculars, much less a sport that is as time-consuming as a full-time job.

I was testing at a 36-38 on the MCAT before I confessed that my science GPA, which was totally fucked at Michigan due to P Chem and Animal Phys, was going to make realizing the dream damn near impossible.  If Garnett wants to go to the med schools he's mentioned, he'll need a similar MCAT score as mine and more As than Bs.

It can be done and it has been done, but it's far from automatic.

In the early 1970's, Michigan had an ultra-competitive combined B.S./M.D. program ("Inteflex")for people who were academic freaks, to get their medical degrees in six years.  For people who totally devoted themselves to study, it was a hard program.  They have since ended it.

Then there was Kirk Lewis.  An academic All-American, a starter on Bo's OL.  And he was in the Inteflex program...!  It is just about the most amazing athletic/academic career I have ever known of.

Athletes don't have the same standards as normal students for med school. You need to have a GPA over 3.2 and a solid MCAT, but bc of the time commitment of major college athletics, they usually get a bump up. I would even say that UM athletes get into UM med at a much higher clip than UM students. I know at least 5 who are there now(wrestling, lacrosse, etc).

It's their ability to balance time which makes them very appealing applicants

I honestly think Garnett will choose Stanford over Michigan... just a gut feeling. I know, this will be marked as flamebait, but hear me out!

All of the speculation towards him going to Michigan has been twitter-based, but all that could be immaterial if Garnett is just as close with a player who is going to Stanford, but isn't on twitter. It's possible that Garnett just had made friends with Magnuson and it's a good friendship, but they are going separate ways. All in all, I believe when he says it is 50/50 between the two schools. But I think that his ties to the region and friends outside of twitter can make a strong enough case for him to pick Stanford.

It'd be interesting that he was doing an interview with a school he wasn't planning on going too.  Then again this was so vague and he's a polite kid so I don't think there is anything to read from this.
