Josh Furman sets his first official visit...and its to AA on Sept 12

I also really like (wide receiver) coach Tony Dews. He’s a great guy and I just get a good feeling about him.” Although Furman still denies a leader..." For anyone not familiar with Furman, he's slotted as the #31 Athlete on Rivals and the #20 Safety on Scout. Hes listed as 6'3 194lbs. He apparently showed very well at camps over the summer, and clocked a 40 time of something like 4.36 and a 42" vertical jump (what!!!). For what it is worth, ESPN thinks he will grow into an OLB. Id predict either OLB or spinner. (As I understand it he plays both OLB and RB for his HS team. He apparently has a knack for rushing the passer) Everything Ive heard on him over the summer has been very positive. I think he will probably be moving up on the rankings as the yr progresses, but to be honest I dont really care. I think the kid has the measurables to be an unbelievably athletic LB (something highly valued in our new defensive scheme. Though the article makes it clear that Furman denies a leader at this time, getting the first look from this kid cant be a bad thing, and landing him would be a huge plus in my opinion.

It's good to get a kid to take an official visit. And it's very good when they mention a specific position coach that they like. Unfortunately, it sounds like we won't be getting the last official visit which is the "powerful" visit since it's the last one that gets to leave an "official visit impression" before the kid makes his decision. That's why schools, including Michigan, always like it when a kid says that that school will be the last one of their officials.

i might otherwise agree with you, accept in this case Michigan is the only school that furman has yet decided he wants to visit. that tells me that he is more sure of his feelings for Michigan than any other school at this point. I also think that by getting the first visit, we could potentially jump out to an early lead. although somewhat countered by the recent decommittment trend, kids often maintain an affinity for their early leaders, and that will put a damper on his visits to follow. Besides, I have faith in UMs ability to leave a lasting impression

While it's essentially true that spinner = OLB, it's more the player who's at that position that provides the difference. The player at "spinner" is a safety playing at an OLB position (i.e. faster, can cover a bit, hits hard but smaller so he won't fare well against an O-lineman)

Looks like were gonna have quite a few recruits coming in on sept 12. The ND game will be one of the more important games in our schedule this year. First it will define our season and second if we put up a good game we can impress our recruits and build our future team

Is there tape of Furman floating around? Dude has been a camp warrior but I don't recall seeing film. If his camp prowess can translate to the field he looks to have some nice potential.
