Josh Furman not on week 2 depth chart?
September 6th, 2010 at 1:26 PM ^
Because he's likely to redshirt.

I believe MGoShoe's post was only Rivals' depth chart. Not the official UofM depth chart. Of course I could be mistaken.

...but the official is out and it matches what Rivals posted. I've updated my links and added a link to the ND Game Notes.

Is everybody in such a rush with Furman? The kid played RB/LB in high school and is moving to a completely new position. Just because you run like a deer in a Flash costume doesn't mean you're going to play. Speaking of deer, this principle on hunting also applies to your expectations on Furman: Let him go so he can grow.

Floyd Simmons may be a walkon, but its his 3rd year in the program. Thats 3 seasons w/ Barwis plus additional time to learn the defense. In an ideal world, Furman will redshirt and start competing for the job next year.

Furman is going to be a beast at UM. He needs a year in the weight room and a year of practice and film study to be really ready to play. He could play this year but it would just add another inexperienced player to a defense full of them. Furman will have his time, it's just not now.

Furman is really raw. Physical tools =/= being ready to play.

I'd like to keep seeing Carvin at SPUR and have Furman go in for Mouton when he gradutates, with M-Rob at Bandit. that'd be an insane defense.

...the most shirtless and abtastic defense in the Big 10(12)

we might actually be looking at a National Championship run depending on if RR is kept around. I mean, Collin Cowherd we could make a run NEXT year. I am very much looking forward to the upcoming years for our defense.
EDIT: Don't forget about the most dreadlocked team along with OMG Shirtless

Wow, you know you have a young, thin team when folks get concerned when a true freshman, non-early enrollee, is not on the depth chart.

keep in mind that furman had, as far as i know, zero coverage duties in high school. he was strictly responsible for pass rushing and run support. it's gonna take time before he is ready to cover with the WRs and TEs

Furman wasn't on the Week 1 depth chart, either.

could someone please post link for player participation. Thanks. I tried to find but no luck so far

Thanks, If I am reading this correct, Marvin Robinson, Demens, Hawthorne, Fitzgerald, Vinopal, Avery, Big Will, and Leach, played on special teams but did not play on defense.
September 6th, 2010 at 4:29 PM ^
Correct, although I thought somebody mentioned seeing Marvin Robinson on defense at one point...
That's the official list, though, so it must be right.

Oops I missed that one, not that he was going to redshirt anyway. I think the rest on the list may redshirt, with the exception of Hopkins.

Magnus, or anyone else with any insight. Any idea what is going on with Isiah Bell? I thought there were some positive reports near the end of last year with him bulking up and being a potential contributor down the road, and since then I haven't heard a single word about him. I thought he would be a special teams player at the least this year? Also, no sign of LaLota anywhere. I know that he was very raw out of high school, but also thought he could at least get some playing time on special teams. Anything to report on either of these two?
September 6th, 2010 at 9:42 PM ^
Isaiah Bell bulked up and is playing MLB. He's at least fourth on the depth chart, if not lower. I've heard that he got a little too big (in other words, it's bad weight) and they're trying to lean him out a little bit. Personally, I think moving him from FS to MLB was a mistake. He should be a weakside linebacker or a Spur right now if they had managed him correctly.
Lalota is behind Jibreel Black at DE. He's still very raw. He's a guy that probably won't contribute until late in his career, if at all. He's just not a very natural athlete, and he didn't start playing football until late in his high school career. Sometimes you see skill players do that and they can still be successful early because of their athleticism. But with linemen, the technique and reads take so long to get a feel for that starting late becomes a bigger problem.

The kid is 207 lbs. Give him some time to pack on some weight and get Barwisized.
September 6th, 2010 at 8:36 PM ^
He was not on the depth chart last week...

red half-shirt?
