Josh Furman gone?

Submitted by ish on

there have been rumors about this.  at the mattison press conference, mattison said in response to a question about furman "ask Coach Hoke."   questions of eligibility, etc. typically are referred to the head coach.

Coach Hoke about Furman personally last week at the coach's clinic. He replied with a bit of a smirk, "He's still here."

I took it as he is in the dog house for something, but is still a part of the team as long as he obliges to whatever the coaches are asking from him.

Either way, it's disappointing that Furman hasn't turned into the bionic linebacker with 4.4 speed that many of us were envisioning when he was recruited

was, in my mind, the clearly-best player on our punt cover and kickoff teams last year.

I don't know any details behind what may be going on, but it is impossible not to notice and comment on the instinctive soft reaction that Hoke gets from fans on the internet these days.  (Perhaps the right thing, and the normal thing, is to side with your head coach as your first reaction.  But it sure is a change in Ann Arbor.)

...how you one can succeed, when people aren't saying stuff like, "Uh-oh, yet another player that Hoke has driven off.  How many is that now?"   Naturally, it is not my position that Hoke has driven off any players at all.  We don't even know what the story is with Josh Furman.  But I've made my point.  That's all.

C'mon, I'm sure you can belabor your point through several more posts . . . .

Stop me if you've heard this before:  You occasionally make worthwhile contributions, but they are drowned in a sea of . . .  well, this kind of stuff.  Judgment, man, judgment . . . .

Hope he's not leaving. I was always on the "he's raw but with some coaching and time in the weight room he's gonna kill it" bandwagon and still think he could be a useful player for us.
