Jordan Taylor Gets Saturday Save for Team USA

Submitted by Michigasling on

Jordan brought in at bottom of the 6th as third US pitcher in game over Japan, a must-win game for the US after losing to Canada earlier in the day.  US up 8-4, but first reliever in trouble.  Jordan strikes out batter to end the inning, then strikes out all three batters she faces in the 7th, the first being a 10-pitch outing.  Commentator: "Great battle won by Jordan Taylor."

Couldn't find any stats, and bizarrely difficult even to find the final score.  Went to ESPN3.com to replay, expecting just to skim through to the highlights.  Pleased to see all the camera time Jordan got behind the fence cheering all the other girls on.  Then fast-forwarded to the final inning to watch the glee of victory and surprised to see her out there.  Worth replaying from her entrance.  Four batters, four Ks.

Next game against Great Britain this afternoon, 5:00 pm EDT on ESPN2, streaming on ESPN3.com.  Have no idea who's pitching, but Taylor's making her mark.

Thanks for the post, Gasling. For whatever reason, I really have trouble finding softball coverage on the major outlets. Glad to hear that Jordan got it going. If we can sneak past Great Britain, would that set us up for a rematch with Canada? You've gotta love Danielle Lawrie. She's a one woman team, just imposing herself, a la Cat Osterman a few years ago. Hopefully we can ring her bell a little, though.

What impressed me at the start of the Japan game was the selfless and smart team play by the US. In the 1st, when we led off with the double, the way the following batters advanced her with bunts was just textbook. Also, to rebound after a couple of bad breaks was impressive. I don't want to make excuses or deny Japan their due, but it really did look like the turf just tore out from the outfield when the fielder was making a good grab.

Ok, gals - let's take it to Great Britain ! ! !

You do know what that reason is right? The same reason this thread drew all of three responses. Not justifying or defending that, but it is a fact that interest is rather low. Best of luck to Jordan and the U.S.
