Jordan Kovacs Profile

Submitted by Bo_Knows on

A pre-draft profile on former Team 133 captain, Jordan Kovacs by Meinke at MLive.

Either way, he's just asking for a chance.

"I’m hoping for the best, preparing for the worst," Kovacs said. "That’s always been my approach. If I get picked, that’ll be great. If not, I’ve beaten the odds before.

"It’ll be a challenge either way, whether I’m picked in the fifth round, or whether I’m undrafted. It’s going to be a dogfight just to make a roster. I’m looking forward to the challenge."

It must be JORDAN KOVACS DAY since it looks like Angelique wrote one over at the Detroit News.

I'm rooting for him to get drafted or sign-on as a post-draft FA.

Even without the NFL, the future is bright for Kovacs. What a great position he is in. He likely has a chance to compete for a spot on an NFL roster, and worse case scenario, he has a degree from a great university with a proven leadership track record.

I am 100% in favor of that player chasing his dream. NFL or no NFL, I have a hard time imagining a scenario in which Jordan Kovacs isn't successful in life.

for Kovacs to do what Kovacs does best. Walk-on to an NFL Team and become a Star!

It would be awesome for him to get drafted, but if he doesn't we all know that won't stop him.

Not being a homer at all but I really think he will make an NFL squad. For how long, I don't know but drafted or not he'll make a team. He is possibly the most intelligent player we've had on the field in a long time and the NFL won't ask him to do as much as we did and the NFL loves high FB IQ guys. Worst case scenario, he has a Mike Hart like career. Either way, already miss the guy in the Winged Helmet and the future is bright for him.

at the UM pro day suprised me. I think he's perfect for the 4th Safety/ STer that teams like to have. I can't help but think he's at least Matt Giordano ( Kovacs is touch slower but has better instincts and is a better tackler), who has had a decent career.

Coach Mattison has so much to do with an average secondary being in the top 5 or whatever it was this past year, but players play and we lost our best corner in game one. Kovacs deserves a ton of credit for that. My guess is he its always around the ball in training camp drills and definitely makes a roster if for nothing else as a special teamer and probably thrives in the role.

No matter what happens with the NFL, I predict one day we'll see a former walk on turned team captain, standing on the sideline at UM coaching in some capacity.

Kovacs' determination and drive to prove that he could compete for and keep a spot on a major conference Division I team is a great story, never mind achieving things like 331 career tackles at Michigan (good for 12th on the all-time list for us, I think). I really like that he seems to simply refuse to be overlooked and just wants to show people what he can do - hopefully, he finds a spot on an NFL roster. NFL or otherwise, that sort of driven attitude will make for a very successful Jordan Kovacs.

I think he would make an excellent special teams player in the NFL. I think his size and speed would be too much of a liability as an every down safety, but someone with his football IQ and instincts should be able to make a team somewhere. He'd be a great guy to have in the locker room and wouldn't make a lot of "dumb mistakes" on special teams that teams like the Lions are infamous  for.

He definitely can play on an NFL roster; he showed he could compete against NFL players for 4 years.  He might not last long, but I definitely see Kovacs getting a shot either as a late-rounder pick or a FA.  But beyond football, I expect him to be on campus one day, coaching and helping the University.
