Jordan Diamond Tweet

Submitted by Bluestreak on

Jordan Diamond just tweeted asking his fans for opinions about college.

Jordan76simeon

Thinking about college ... I wanna hear y'all opinion ... where yall think would be a good fit for me?

Let us tell Jordan how much we want him at Michigan and how he can be an immediate contributor to our OL!

[Ed-M: Note: contacting a recruit is a potential violation]

Also - he just got offered by 'The U'

Or is Diamond liking this just a little too much.  For someone who has been supposedly a big Michigan lean for so long he definitely doesn't sound like much of a lean.  Or he is just liking the attention.  Your thoughts..............

But I sure as hell hope he is enjoying this process. He's a kid (and by all accounts a good kid), and this is an exciting time for him. Why would we chastise him for that?

Besided, it's pretty tough to say he's a prima donna for seeking all of this attention when HE'S the 17-year-old kid, and WE'RE the ones starting a new 75-comment thread every time he makes a lunch order.

Tweeting recruits is not good business; even if they ask. It seems creepy. I support our personal recruit intermediary, Mr. Tom Van Haaren in his efforts on our collective behalf.

As an aside, I wonder if Jordan Diamond wasn't asking, you know, his friends for their opinions?

I thought I'd put it out there anyways.

While I am opposed to approaching recruits without solicitation about committing, Jordan seems to be asking for opinions - so IMHO it is okay to show him some love and let him know how much we'd like to have him at Michigan.

Anyways - I can respect your opinions that you rather leave recruits alone.

It's not a matter of people's opinions about this. The fact is that what you suggested is a clear NCAA violation. The following is from a NYT article titled A Recruit’s Friend, a Team’s Fan and a Headache for Colleges.

Grace said he saw nothing wrong with using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter to reach out to some of the best high school players in the country, as long as there is no harassment. And he is far from alone in doing so. But what Grace and other fans like him may not know was that he had been violating N.C.A.A. regulations.

The N.C.A.A. allows coaches to correspond with recruits via e-mail, fax and social networking sites. But since 2007, it has prohibited all other forms of electronically transmitted correspondence, including text messaging, instant messaging and posting messages on a user’s Facebook wall. Alumni, fans and boosters, individually or in organized groups, are not permitted to contact a recruit for the purpose of enticing him to attend a particular university.

unless you know these recruits personally please don't contact them. NOt via facebook, twitter, telephone, hiding behind a bush on their lawn until they leave the house...just don't contact them. How f*ing hard is it for people today to be able to distinguish where personal boundries are and not cross them?

If you don't know someone personally, what in the heck makes you think they want you contacting them in any way shape or form? Give these guys a break!

@Jordan76simeon I think you should choose the school you like best and not give a care what any of these people think! #FansAreSelfish

Recruits don't normally give any indication that fans in general have any influence over their decision. Do we know this is really him?

But I wouldn't answer him. If people's responses actually influence his decision to attend a certain college, then so be it. With that being said, I'd sure like him to Go Blue!

I believe contacting a recruit to encourage him to attend a school is or could be a violation of NCAA rules. I'd be careful about this one.

that only applies to boosters and such. I don't think the NCAA cares if little old me (from Canada who has no affiliation with UM other than my fandom) contacted someone to try to pursuade them to attend UM they could say much.

With that being said, why the hell would anyone other than this kids friends and family think they have any business contacting him and discussing such things?

I can't be sure, but this Chet guy sounds a lot like the guy who was trying to convince people on another thread that he has personally landed some recruits for UM by conversing with them via facebook and twitter and the recruits all love him.

Again, I am not certain this is that same guy, but some of his posts seem pretty familiar.

At least I'm TRYING to HELP, I don't just sit in the Internet and talk all day, I get out there and talk to these guys. I mean I met a kid (not gonna name names yet) at a camp over the weekend who looks great (no profile on scout yet, sorry) and I'm gonna try to get his film up to Brady and the staff. That is how I made an impact this weekend. Hopefully UM will offer so we can get this guy out on the field soon! All while you just talked...

Stop interacting with recruits. You aren't helping, and you are going to get your beloved school in trouble. Brady Hoke and Greg Mattison have this 'recruiting' thing well in hand without you.

Knock it. The Fuck. Off.

Messaging recruits does not really help.. It's just pretty creepy and gives them a bad impression of Michigan fans. Yes, we want him to come to Michigan, but this is one of the biggest decisions of his life. He should be allowed to make it without fans badgering his facebook account.

If he doesn't come here, then we wish him the best of luck and move on. If he does, then we celebrate and get excited to see him in the maize and blue.

Many recruits have been contacted by people like you consistenly and it turned them off of a college (I think there were a couple Georgia recruits or something that decommited last year because the fans were too creepy, but I'm not sure)

I just post on a message board because I know my place where UM athletics are concerned. You are a raving loon if you think what you are doing is making any kind of positive difference unless you are a coach/former player who these kids will actually take seriously and not be totally creeped out by.

The fact that you think you have a greater ability to go out an evaluate talent than our current staff is even more proof to me that you are absolutey batshit crazy. Pretty soon your sig line is going to be your life story if you don't leave these kids alone..."I'm locked up, they won't let me out". Seems fitting given the circumstances IMHE.

At least I'm TRYING to HELP

I'm inclined to think the coaches disagree with you. You are not the coaching staff, it is not your job, and I'm pretty sure everyone wants you to stop because a) you're creepy as hell and b) as you have self-described yourself, you are a booster. In case you haven't noticed we're kind of on probation right now. The NCAA coming knocking about possible recruiting violations isn't exactly in our interest. The coaches are doing a fine job recruiting without your "help".

about what guys like Dennis Talbott have done to try to "help" their favorite teams.  You might think you're helping, but chances are you're just getting your jollies by rubbing elbows with kids who are living a life you wish you had.  You sound like an NCAA violation waiting to happen.

Screw buying a new car, lets look a little closer to reality. How about say...going to university. When I was decideing to go to University (one of the biggest decisions of my life) would I like some freak-ass lowlife with serious alterior motives to contact me trying to give me advice? Abso-fucking-lutely not!

I promise you they will not notice, nor will they care, if you defriend them.

I can't see Kyle Kalis thinking, "Man, these OSU fans are all threatening me and I really don't like that. But this Michigan fan that friend requested me on facebook de-friended me. That's a low blow. I'll go to OSU now."

Chet, I understand  that you want to help, but at times, it causes much more trouble than it is worth.  You don't have to drop them or not follow them.  But, if you contribute to the AD or University, I think you can be classified as a booster.  So, better now try it, it's too much trouble.  The issue here is Jordan was asking for opinions, but I still wouldn't.

I think Ross said it best when people were giving crap to T rich.  He said you can't balme them, because they love their school.

No said following them is off limits. Personally I don't know why someone would, but to each his own. The following isn't an issue so if you keep it at that, no one will have a problem. It's the contacting them that they (and we) have a problem with. Good decision on dropping that. +1
