Jordan Anthony on why he chose Michigan

Submitted by Communist Football on

Scout's Corey Bender:

Another nationally-recognized prospect out of the Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy has opted to team up with Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines, with Jordan Anthony stepping into the spotlight to reveal his anticipated college decision on Thursday evening.

A Maryland native and 6-foot-1, 226-pound senior that's been silently committed to the Wolverines for a couple of months now, Anthony is tagged as the 13th-ranked outside linebacker and 185th-ranked player overall in the Scout 300.

Anthony's teammate and Scout 100 center, Cesar Ruiz, kicked things off on Monday by becoming Michigan's first-ever commitment out of the IMG Academy, and now Anthony has found no reason to turn away from the winged helmet as well.

"I'll be heading to the University of Michigan," Anthony told Scout. "Just honestly, the coaching staff really has a plan for me and know what they want to do with me.

"Of course I like the university. Each time I visited, it felt like home and the place I want to be. I definitely like the campus, and the atmosphere with the fans, they love the sport and they love the school; they're definitely hardcore fans.

"With the major I want to study in, there are not really many better places you can go to get a great education like that."

Let me try to save everyone the trouble:

1.  Water is wet;

2.  I hear we landed on the moon;

3.  I think that we have a real shot at getting Harbaugh to come here;

4.  Oakland is in play;

5.  Something about Steffan Diggs, DeShawn Hand, [insert random 5* that we were close to getting]

Seriously, though, the lack of Hello thread on the board may have been the issue - I was at an event last night, and checked the board every 30 minutes or so after 7 to see if he committed, and when I didn't see anything by 9, I assumed that it was postponed.  Only when I got home did I check the main page to see the Hello post.

I think that the way that the app is set up, many users just go to the board for news, since it tends to show up well before the front page content.

Either way, if you change the name of the post to "Jordan Anthony comments on why he chose Michigan" this isn't a bad post, so I was mostly making fun of the board, not the OP, in my mock snark.

right after the Summer camps ended some questioned the success of them, considering that we got no 4 or 5 commits from the camps. Those camps planted the seeds and now we're reaping the harvest. The camps were great for the kids and UM, but with 2 IMG commits and potentially Harris, the camps will be an overwhelming success.

Thanks for sharing. I don't see why people are being dicks about this. Personally, I like reading when kids are talking about why they love Michigan.

Threads like this give a lot of people on this site great pleasure and meaning to there (for you grammarians out their) lives.

Count me among those surprised this morning to find not a single Jordan Anthony thread - I searched for it. I did see the "Hello" posting, but after all the threads about other commits in recent days, I felt bad for Jordan. Hard for me to see the harm done, regardless.

I don't think the OP is saying hey he committed! I think he's just posting why he committed. Plus I don't think we ever had a hello: Jordan Anthony post.

He main reason that a kid would give a silent commit is that by giving the commitment, the future coach knows that he is coming and reserves his spot (and can recruit accordingly). At the same time, the kid might not want to face backlash from his current coaches (if those coaches wanted him to go to a different school), his teammates (if they wanted him to go with them to a different school) or the internet (which assuredly has trolls that wanted him to go to a different school and will happily wish him death for disappointing them). Committing silently let's the kid avoid all of the pressures that could be exerted by these various jive turkey factions.

by TC is he is mobile only and the boards and ACE hello posts are on separate areas of the app(Android for me). There's usually a hello post on the mboards and then a write officially hello by ACE. This was the first recruit that didn't get a hello on this section, I guess they got deleted but I never saw them.

Just watched his tape.  I see his future as a MIKE backer playing in the middle.  His frame can easily put 20 lbs on it without great loss of speed.  Defensive football is about Geometry.  Understanding angles and speed.  He has good instincts for reading the play and plays the angles well.  Everyone projects him at SAM or WILL, however I see his body type, ability to get off of blocks and read plays projecting better towards the inside.   He is going to be a great one at Michigan.  Like David Harris with better coverage potential.
