Jon Runyan Jr ranking move (star-gazers beware)

Submitted by BlueKoj on

Scout and 247 have adjusted his ranking. I'm not worried about this, and I assume it is related more to others "moving up" than Runyan having issues. He now appears to have lost his top-300 and 4* ranking on Scout and I think he moved from an 85 to an 81 (dropping 90ish spots nationally).

Just curious...Did he camp somewhere recently, or is this just relative fluctuation based on others jumping him?

Unless there is a quota on the number of 4-stars, and the number of people ranked "85," I think it is more than people moving ahead of him. I'd guess it was based on his performance at the Jersey Nike camp.

I think people have just passed him up. I haven't read very much negative about him, but he's not particularly large or fierce or athletic.

Scout.

Runyan 'can't wait' to get to Michigan Philadelphia (Penn.) St. Joseph's Prep offensive linemen Jon Runyan has been a solid early commitment to Michigan for some time. The four-star talent talks to Scout.com about his development, excitement about joining the Wolverines and more.

Commits to Michigan they always get bumped down. It's like clockwork, go back and look over the last 5 years. Tons of our recruits get downgraded as soon as they say MICHIGAN! But others that commit to certain schools seem to always get a bump up as soon as they commit to that said school. Horrible

Personally I think OL is the toughest position to project.  It seems far more variable than any other position - you see no star guys or 2 star guys go in the top of the NFL draft 5 years later while 4 stars often flame out.

Guys who are giants in HS just have to physically dominate (who needs technique when you outweigh DE by 50 lbs) while smaller guys have to at least develop some skill set.  It is very difficult to see who can in 3 years take that added bulk they all have to add and create a good level of technique to go along with it.  Wisconsin takes 3 stars all the time and develops them ... hopefully if this world stays aligned Runyan Jr is not even sniffing a job until his RS JR year anyhow.

Stars don't matter, this kid looks the part and its in his blood. For those who do care about stars its still very early anyways, i'd wait till the end of his senior year for a better projection to come out. The guys at Scout probably haven't seen enough or recent film on him.
