Jon Falk is back

Submitted by Gordon on
Jon Falk is back as Michigan's equipment manager, on at least an interim basis. Possibly permanent. Jon did not want to leave originally, and Hackett and Manuel are putting things back in the proper spot whenever possible.

you even need to ask.

I wonder if there is a more widespread effort at recovering the many others that were forced out in Brandon's quest to obliviate the soul of Michigan athletics.

Brandon always struck me as someone that might poison your drinking water and not tell you about it. /s

A longtime (decades-long) friend of Jon's and one of the most connected people around Michigan athletics.  He heard from Jon that he's back.

Falk being forced out has been an open secret for years, to the point that the WTKA shows have basically said it is what it is.

Rhetorical question, Beverly. Same thing happened to Bruce Madej. He's already back doing spot work for the PBP guys. Jon Falk has been on the sidelines for most games this season. That stupid article Frank Beckman wrote was used as leverage to get him to "retire".

It's not on the Detroit News site any longer, but this gets to it:

He also made some comments on Facebook about the Fab Five and race, and had begun to get even more extreme in his role as a political commentator.

In the end, Michigan had a valid point in letting him go. Either you can be a political commentator or a sports broadcaster. His work in the former was reflecting poorly on the university, both in his tenor and the frequency of his headline-grabbing and somewhat ill-placed comments (to tiptoe around the obvious politics-are-verboten implications).

Beckmann is not coming back, now or ever.

His political statements grew increasingly unbecoming of Michigan, even against Michigan in some ways, and he is still bitter about Michigan not keeping him on and endorsing his political views.

Contrast that with Falk and Madej, who left in name only and were never really 'gone' for good.
