Johnny Sears

Submitted by wresler120 on

I was wondering where Johnny Sears was ... last I had heard he was with the Bengals Organization. Looks like he's playing in Canada, and is injured:

Winnipeg, MB (Sports Network) - Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back and special teamer Johnny Sears will miss significant time at the start of the upcoming season.

I thought he would end up having a great career at Michigan before his stay concluded early.

If I wanted to know where Johnny Sears was at I would have googled it. I didn't realize it was the question on the tip of everyone's tongue but were too afraid to ask.

The real reason I clicked, other than boredom, wanted to make sure he was alive. Far too many RIP posts lately, I am relieved to hear he remains with us.

Upon what evidence did you think he'd have a great career at MICH?

The best play he ever made in the Big House was drawing a bogus PI penalty from Boubacar Cissoko in 2009.

I actually remember seeing him in the spring game in, I think, 2007(?) and thinking he was going to blow up. He seemed fast, aggressive, was around the ball, hit people, etc.

That experience taught me a valuable lesson: the spring game and performances therein should be taken with a massive boulder of salt.

Yep. In thinking back, it makes sense why he stood out in a spring game: he was fast and liked to hit people. When playing with 2nd stringers in the spring game, he looked very promising. Unfortunately, as we all know, a hell of a lot goes into making someone a good/great/serviceable/not awful defensive back other than just "fast; likes to run into people; has cool hair and hangs out with Manningham." I wanted to root for Johnny Sears so bad. Dang it.

I always wondered what happened to those guys, so I googled them.  Turns out they are no longer "Straight Ballin"... they may have borrowed a red Corvette from Ted Sarniak for their prom though, that is unconfirmed.

at all.  I know players(name withheld for obvious reasons) who smoked weed and have done well in college level.

It is a contributing factor on why he didn't succeed. Too many factors that take account into why he failed at Michigan.

Dude, whether you get enough sleep the night before changes someone's performance.  Smoking cigarettes changes someone's performance.  Don't say that smoking weed doesn't affect someone's athletic performance.

It might not be the only reason that some people fail, and some people might succeeed despite it, but saying that it doesn't affect an elite athlete's performance is ridiculous.

who are considered to be the best player on the team, smoke weed on a regular basis.  I'm not saying that it doesn't affect someone's performance but it's not as bad as many make it out to be.  There are other contributing factors plus smoking weed that affect performance.
