Johnathon Hankins Announcement Tomm

Submitted by Smitty D on
The Detroit Southeastern folks have been trying all day to get Hankins' announcement organized for tomorrow (Tuesday) at halftime of Southeastern's basketball game, and they just got everything in place for that to happen. Now, Michigan was supposed to be in-home with Hankins tomorrow night, but that will obviously not happen and like I said in chat yesterday it is looking likely this goes in OSU's direction with the timing of this announcement. Honestly I could care less about getting negged. I don't visit MGO for the sacred points. I visit to get good info, express my opinion, F O$U F O$U F O$U, and listen to what others have to say. If you feel the need to neg me be my guest. The way I feel is F O$U. I guess maybe you have a hidden crush on O$U. Again F O$U.

Definitely would be a bummer to lose out on Hankins and miss a chance to get some more size on the DL and a better foothold at Southeastern. I guess he won't be visiting Alabama either. That being said, I think picking up Todd Chandler would be more fruitful in the long-term. First I'm assuming it would be a package deal with Torrian Wilson. Second, getting an in with Miami Northwestern would be a huge pick-up. While most of their players stay in town, it would be great to build ties at a school that regularly pumps out 4-stars Ok, I might be really grasping for the silver lining of a supposed long-time michigan fan going to the enemy....what do others think about our chances with Chandler?

An earlier thread on the board today mentioned that Chandler is no longer considering Michigan and wouldn't visit - likely due to the Hopson departure. Oh well....

Yaaarghhhh....well there goes that silver lining. But here is my attempt at a second one. Perhaps Torrian can still come aboard and help open up a new important recruiting pipeline. As we've seen with Pahokee, having an in with a school and having a few of former teammates in A2 can really help with recruiting. Plus I think that if Richrod can survive through next year, he is putting Michigan in good shape with different top high school programs, Pahokee, Cardinal Mooney, Dallas Skyline(yes I realize Drake may not qualify but its a start), and hopefully Miami Northwestern.

I'm not going to cry over this one if he goes to OSU. Any guy who has measurables like Hankins, and still can't get an offer from the two in-state schools until after his senior year has some skeletons in the closet. I'd love to have his upside, but there seems like a lot of downside here as well...

Nobody gave a rat's ass about Hankins until he got an offer a few weeks ago. Now some of you are being crybabies about it. This class is virtually full, anyway, and several projections had Hankins on the outside looking in even if he wanted to commit.

I disagree, Hankins has been a hot topic on the GBW Scout boards for most of this year. Not to mention if you listen to Sam Webb's recruiting roundup there's always someone asking about Hankins. Hankins is a local kid many Michigan fans wanted and had an eye on for quite some time. I first learned about him when checking out stuff about Gholston. This one really hurts. Not only is he not coming to Michigan, but he's going to Ohio St. And his big body is gonna plug the middle up. Our tiny 5'7" scatbacks are going to get engulfed by this eclipse of a young man. This is a sad day for Michigan because he could've been plugging the middle for Michigan and not those bastards down there.

Again, the coaches obviously weren't in love with him. If they were, he would have received an offer before November or December. They held off as long as possible. I have a hard time believing that a guy who the coaches didn't really want to offer would have seen the field very much, especially early in his career. It doesn't hurt that much.

Sorry, but that's bull. If they "didn't really want to offer", they wouldn't have. They wouldn't have sent three coaches to his high school the day after he received the offer. They wouldn't have scheduled an in-home visit for later tonight (obviously it won't happen now). I don't understand what people aren't getting about this. They didn't want him in the summer because he wasn't the same player. He was injured and ridiculously out of shape when he showed up to camp. They couldn't justify offering him then, and they told him they would review his senior film after his season and get back to him. They did that, and they saw that he had improved his conditioning to the point where they felt comfortable offering him. So they did. And any hard feelings from the Hankins camp about Michigan waiting to offer was smoothed over on his official visit. You don't spend money to host a prospect if you didn't really want to offer him. Michigan wanted Hankins, and they wanted him badly. They put the fullcourt press on him. They tried desperately to get him to cancel his Ohio State visit, and they failed. And it was STILL trending in Michigan's favor...until Archie Collins lowered the hammer. Simple as that.

This one falls solely on Rich Rod. "We'll look at your tape at the end of the season and see if you earned your offer." What the fuck is that? How about you Rich Rod! How about you comb your silly hair plugs, go jump in your car and drive your lazy ass 40 mintues to Detroit and go see the kid play in person in October! Is that really too much to ask?

Neg me all you want. I watched the O-D All American game and the UA All-American game this weekend and guess what? Between the two games I counted more commited MSU players on those rosters than commited Michigan players. Rich Rod is really kikcing ass in recruiting out there isn't he?

My daughter is out interning with a large animal vet in Kansas. And sticking her arm up cow's butts. Really enjoys it . . . working with vets, that is. I'll wait until after she's done a week of preg checks before seeing whether or not she really enjoys the other.

That's exactly where it comes from, too. One of the people on the board here was talking about his daughter, I believe, wanting to go to State to become a Large Animal Vet. I said that's fine, so long as she knows it's not all rehabilitating mistreated horses. Sooner or later, she's going to have to stick her arm up a cow's butt.

RR has Michigan in the top 12 in recruiting this season, plus 14th last season. With 3 more recruits we are probably in the top 10. Michigan has 8 wins in two years, name another program that could be recruiting in the top 15 with that record. Come on man, what a joke. Give me a break, then you join the Spartan cause!! Hail!

Notre Dame 2007: 3-9 Notre Dame 2008: 7-6 (with a bowl win) Notre Dame recruiting class 2008: 2(!) Notre Dame recruiting class 2009: 21 (According to Rivals) Notre Dame won a combined 10 games in 07 and 08 and that including a bowl game which means they played one extra game than Michigan 08 and 09. The average recruiting class for Notre Dame the following years was 11.5. If you are going to be smarmy at least get your facts straight. I understand your sentiment, but Notre Dame pulled great recruits after dismal years too. Don't be arrogant and think Michigan is the only school capable of doing that.

Weis was dealt a nice hand when he arrived at Notre Dame. He did a great job recruiting, only based on the fact that he was an NFL man. No bowl games!! You don't think that those recruiting classes had anything to do with the 9-3 and 10-3 seasons before the 3-9 campaign. I have a feeling it does. RR hasn't had a 9-3 season or a 10 win season at Michigan yet. He has gone 8-16 in two years with no talent to run his schemes until 2009. Now he sits with a top ten class!! If you ask me that is pretty amazing. If you want to put Notre Dame in there go a head, but 7-6 isn't considered a losing season the last time I checked. Nice facts!!

Hopefully we can pull in Jibreel Black or Beachum. Haven't heard much lately about the latter, so I would tend to think we have a better shot at Black. Hopefully he is blown away by his visit

Hankins has been to UM on a number of unofficials. I know it's probably OSU, but I wouldn't rule us out yet. He's had the OSU and Florida offers for some time. If he's not waiting until signing day to achieve maximum hype, it seems strange that he's making the decision just a few weeks after his offer (and right at the end of the dead period). I'm trying to be more optimistic in 2010.

offer Hankins earlier on because he was very overweight and if they had offered him earlier he would have committed. Hankins has been a second choice for Michigan throughout the process and he is still a 2nd choice for OSU. If he commits to OSU and they accept his commitment then that most likely means that Sharif Floyd is going to UF. I would rather have OSU have Hankins than Floyd. That being said, I wouldn't mind Hankins in our class and it sucks to have any in state player go to OSU.

...I don't think I have ever seen as much bitching and complaining from the Michigan blog fan base about an out of shape recruit that probably got the best counsel from any college coach out there. Look, RR and staff gave the kid an honest assessment. It obviously was of benefit cuz the kid slimmed down. If he doesn't want to come to U of M, that's fine. OSU was on him longer and I don't blame him if he wants to go there. They just finally won a bowl game and have a QB that can teach him how to murder and not bring the proper attire when you have to go to a dressy restaurant.

I'm not buying it. The coaches weren't in love with Hankins. They had reservations about him. If they were in love with his abilities, they would have recruited him all the way through the process. Will Campbell wasn't in great shape, yet the coaches stuck with him the entire way through the process. Our coaches gave Hankins a chance to earn an offer WITH CONDITIONS. And yeah, they did put the full-court press on Hankins. You're absolutely right. It's just that they waited until Jay Guy wasn't going to come to Michigan...Sharrif Floyd removed them from the picture...and until they realized Mike Thornton probably wouldn't be an option... They definitely put the full-court press on when every other DT wasn't an option anymore.
