John Beilein selected as Asst. Coach for USA Basketball Junior Natl Team
Beilein will be an assistant coach for USA Basketball Men's Junior National Team at this summer's World University Games.
Davidson coach Bob McKillop will serve as the team's head coach, and South Carolina coach Frank Martin will be an assistant coach alongside Beilein.
Wow, talk about two polar opposite personalities in the assistant coaches.
Maybe they're going for a good cop-bad cop dynamic.
Beilein wasn't all like, "In case you haven't heard, I don't do 'assistant coach.'"
gets to be one!
Congratulations to John Beilein on this honor, and while it is his first time as an assistant, he gets to be one with a team representing the United States, so there's that. Very cool.
I believe he's been a court coach at some of their training camps in the past, but this is a nice bit of recognition for his achievements as a head coach in college basketball.
Congrats Coach B.
Do you think they should rest the coaches in the early rounds so they don't get too tired for the regular season?
(not sure if I should start a thread for this topic)
Big day for Coach Beilein: He's been named a finalist for the 2013 Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award! mgob.lu/14T37cA
— Michigan Basketball (@umichbball) March 12, 2013
From the award site:
The Skip Prosser Award was established in 2008 to honor those who not only achieve success on the basketball court but who display moral integrity off of it as well.
Although it doesn't say anything about moral integrity on the court, Tom Crean is not one of the other finalists.
Wow there are a lot of men on this planet. That's a HUGE honor!
Coach B tearin' it up, awesome! Congrats to him, he's certainly earned it.
Frank Martin?? Really? A player will miss a free throw and frank will beat him with a chair after the game.
Congrats to coach B tho.
...resulting in a significant Michigan representation on the team.
GRIII and McGary seem like good candidates. Don't think we'll see Stauskas, eh?
It'd be interesting to see how the U.S. would gameplan for Stauskas, given Beilein's knowledge of his game.
Gashing him over the right eye seemed to work pretty well. I bet they'll try that.
Do you think that was intentional?
