Regardless of what happened in his later life, which I'm certain he regretted deeply, he was a good man. He turned a lot of guys into greta members of their communities. There are a lot of people whom I respect, that swear by Coach Paterno. You're remembered by the things you leave behind in those you knew. If that's the case, Joe leaves behind a great legacy of 4 decades of bringing in 18 year kids, and graduating men, who went on to do great things.

...that one mistake shouldn't overshadow a lifetime of good deeds, but when that one mistake is letting your defensive coordinator get away with molesting and raping innocent children under your roof for at least a decade, I have zero respect for the man.  His lungs may be failing him now, but nowhere close to how badly he failed those kids.

I told my wife he would be dead in less than year when he got fired, but I never thought this soon. I'm sure he lost his desire for life when everything unfolded. Very sad happening in college football history.

There is no confirmation from a credible source.  Adam Jacobi is reporting it for Eye on Sports from CBS, but no major outlet anywhere is saying Paterno has passed.  Let's wait for corroboration before starting another candlelight vigil.

This is way different and has to be WAAAAY harder. I come from after Bo's time but outside of the coincidence of it being on the eve of the OSU game, it was a just a case of an older man dying that had to happen sooner or later.

The wounds (not to mention memories of him actually coaching) are so fresh for PSU fans that this has to be incredibly impactful. They saw their one and only coaching icon dragged through the mud by not just the national media, but non-sports media as well. To come off that and prepare for the man's death while still having to sympathize with the kids Sandusky abused, just ... wow.

Seriously reporting a story that is fabricated  should be a crime at the very least should lose his job

They reported something they thought was true. The truth was obviously going to come out, so it isn't like they were trying to pull a fast one.

Epic Journalism Fail, which will (and should) probably cost someone a job? Absolutely. Criminal? Absolutely not.

Horrific mistake RT : CBS owes the Paterno family a prominent apology. You cannot get that wrong.

Even at this, I highly suspect that someone's career in sports news at CBS is effectively ended by this error. The veracity of reports around high-profile passings is something you get one shot at essentially. Most  other errors, it seems, get some form of a pass or,  at most, reprimand.

This morning, there was a report that the Paterno family was weighing the possibility of removing the ventilator.

This was sent to me by my dad and is from WBRE out of Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton a few minutes ago.

Update: Eyewitness News was on the air reporting that OnwardState.com and CBS Sports were reporting Joe Paterno's death. However Paul McGloin said live on WBRE that his son Matt had not heard that. Reports of players receiving an e-mail have been refuted and now family members report that Joe Paterno is alive and in serious condition. More updates as they come in...

He's just pointing out that the fact that you have a three month year old son doesn't matter.  I have a two year old.  I think that unless you have kids, you have no idea how much a parent actually cares.  If something like this happened to my son, look out because I would not be able to control myself...
