Joe Bolden: UM to "beat tar out of" ND, OSU

Submitted by G-Man on

Joe Bolden is the feature of an article on MLive's homepage right now.  He feels slighted, particularly by ND for not recruiting him, and wants revenge:

"It will be good to walk over and shake the Notre Dame coaches' hands and say thank you for giving me the drive to be even better," Bolden said.

He also calls OSU "Ohio" fwiw.  Quick learner.

I really like this guys attitude.  Can't wait to get him on campus and see what happens to him after a red shirt year in the weight room.  Hopefully Joe can bring a few more friends with this kind of fire with him.

I am so pumped about the talent we have at linebacker.  Some of these guys are bound not to pan out, but we should have at least one diamond in the bunch.

Well, odds are that one of the four may end up signing elsewhere. And one of the remaining may not reach star potential. That's just how it seems to go. But all four are terrific prospects. Hoke has given the LBs room for error, for the first time in a long time. That's what's exciting.

Don't know if I would call anyone who pans out a diamond in the rough.  They are all pretty well regarded players.  A diamond in the rough would be a 2 star or 3 star turning into an all conference player, like JJ Watts or Nick Kerrigan.

I don't understand how there is such a big difference between 6'3" (as the Hello: Joe Bolden post concludes) and 6'4."  Obviously it is only one inch.  I can understand not wanting a 5'11" OLB, but we are talking about splitting hairs here.  PLUS, it looks like ND offered a scholly to an OLB out of Texas (Nance) who is 6' 3" just like Joe Bolden.  What?

I don't think Kelly is a good evaluator of defensive talent.  I think he messed up and mistakenly just had someone higher than Bolden.  So, Kelly lied to the kid and he deserves the vendetta that Bolden will unleash on him.  I can't wait.

They offered Nance, but he is a ILB for ND.  Given how many ILB they have on the roster now, I just don't think they are going to take one unless he's a T'eo type talent.  Bolden isn't anywhere near the size of the players ND took for OLB last year.  I just don't think he fits the 3-4.  That doesn't mean that Kelly can't evaluate defensive talent.  Look at the class they brought in last year.

First ones a Sparty, I'd like the fact that he mentions MSU once and the comment section if filled with jaded Spartans. Just worry about keeping your players out of jail and playing ND the week after UM when it’s a trap game for them....F'in parasites.

Yeah the comments in that article are hilarious (in a bad way).  That made me remember why I stopped reading mlive.com.  In fact, spending so much time on MGoBlog has made me forget how stupid a lot of the internet dialogue really is outside of the intelligent blogosphere.

"Coach Mattison wants to see me at the 'Shoe with a power play coming right at me, and me stuffing it," Bolden said proudly.

I read somewhere that Kelly believes in "Building an Offense and recruiting a Defense."

This has to be a B.S. line saying he wasn't tall enough but looking at ND 2011 recruiting class they have two LB's at 6-4 and 6-5 and five out of six DE over 6-4, so whatever. Maybe Manti Te'o will transfer, he only 6-2 but recruited by Weiss. Good luck with that ND. LB's are about smarts and hatred of hart not size.

I cant get over how awesome this guys attitude is. I'm almost 10 years older than he is, and he probably has be beat in the maturity dept. I am so excited for platyers like this guy.

Can we petition for him to play next season?

Also, is there a chance that any of these 4 LBs are looking to enroll early?

Thats the great thing about recruiting kids from the Midwest, they do really take these rivalries more seriously than kids from other places. No Offense to RR and staff but you have to wonder how much kids from other areas of the country really care about the rivalries when they get here form Florida. Bolden is most likely a couple years away from seeing the field and he already holds ND in contempt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jack lambert: ok hes 6-4 but way too skinny.

Chris Speilman:  6-0

Sam Mills: ha. 5-9 you'll never make it.

Ray Lewis: 6-1

Dave Harris: 6-2

Samurai Mike: 6-0

Dick "MoFo" Butkus.....drum roll....6-3.

There's more but BK but this is just a quick list.

Maybe they can hurry up and get in the Urban Meyer sweepstakes...idiot.

Seriously doubt it was height alone, if a recruit can bring something else to the table when a measurable isn't ideal they will still get an offer. Probably has more to do with running the 3-4 and who currently has an offer

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA !!!!

Still is too funny to think that the worst 3 year stretch of Michigan football, in history, produced 2 victories over nd ....  WWAWAWAWAAAA  !!!

Maybe they'll break out those "returning to glory" shirts again this year .... WAWAAAAA

It has always been a bit of a trap game, probably had something to do with why MSU and ND couldn't win at home in the series for those years.  MSU definitely has an advantage over UM against ND, twice as much game film plus now it will be two pro-style offenses so their edge will probably grow.

UM switching to a pro-style offense should help with ND's prep game week as well though so it probably lightens ND's load a bit as well.

I have never felt ND takes the MSU game as seriously as MSU takes the game and that might be because of the UM game the week before.  If they're ranked this year when we play it will give the game more power in my mind for sure; but it has never felt the same as UM games, and there have been some really good MSU/ND games over the past few years.

OLB Prince Shembo (So), Dan Spond(Fr), Ishaq Williams (Fr), Ben Councell (Fr)

OLB Darius Fleming (Sr), Steve Filer (Jr.), Ishaq Williams (Fr)

ILB Manti Teo (Jr), David Posluzney (Jr), Kendall Moore (Fr), Jarrett Grace (Fr)

ILB Carlo Calabrese (So), Dan Fox (So), Justin Utupo (Fr), Anthony Mcdonald (Sr)

Thats the 3/4 deep at LB for ND eligibility wise.  2 players will be graduating next year and Manti is really unlikely to jump early.  ND has a total of 4 LB offers out in this class and they're in a very good place with Noor Davis, its just not a position ND is looking to fill unless the kid is really high on their board.

Was just going to say.. All full at the inn.  Maybe he can become the Immaculate Interception for you guys?  Who knows.  Its nice to have a chip on your shoulder, but the kid hasn't played a single down of college ball.  Say thanks very much and be on your way.

Having to wait a year and half for Bolden and the rest of this class to get here is almost unbearable.

"Kids, Christmas this year is going to be a little tight......but NEXT YEAR.  You just wait."

I was surprised at the comments by Joe Bolden. I got the impression that he was very soft spoken and was not one to hold grudges.

No matter; just thought it was odd.

I wonder if Joe B. and these other early commits will take the opportunity to start school early so they can get involved in the program and spring practices/conditioning.

The article also raised some concerns with me about the competition at the linebacker position and the number of early commitments. My concern being that with the rivals article on  linebackers in the 2012 recruiting class and the possibility on these early commits to waffle on their commitment in 9 months or so because of the level of competition and number of recruits for the linebacker position.

"Coach Mattison wants to see me at the 'Shoe with a power play coming right at me, and me stuffing it," Bolden said proudly.

I am just envisioning this in my head!!! I know these 17 year olds are too! That has got to give a recruit chills up and down his spine to hear a former NFL DC saying he wants to see YOU just obliterate a big play at your rivals house.

Well done Coach Mattison and Joe Bolden  See you pulling that same play in a year and a half!!

Bolden seems like a guy that will be a great leader in a few years. Future captain material. I can't wait too see our linebacking in a few years....

Some of the Michigan posters were landing some good blows on the Spartoons in the comments.  "You realize M has a winning record vs. msu in basketball, right?"

There is nothing more tenacious in this world quite like a recruit scorned. We all need something to motivate us and this is his thing. I look forward to seeing him seek his vengeance.
