JMo working out with NBA teams

Submitted by DCAlum on

According to MLive, JMo is working out with the Cavaliers, Timberwolves, and Bulls this week and next. He's shooting for a summer league tryout or maybe going to head to Europe to play for a bit before pursuing an engineering career.

All the best to him. Morgan is an exemplary alum, and I hope he gets on a team and succeeds.

(I didn't see this posted, let me know if it's old news).

he would get a shot. A team could do worse than a guy with limited athleticism, a rock hard body, a sky high basketball iq and a huge amount of desire.

While I agree in principle, this year's tourney run has me questioning whether "limited athleticism" applies to JMo.

Certainly by NBA standards he's small, but he matched up well with some very good, NBA-caliber bigs in the tourney

What would make more sense for his NBA future if he doesn't get a chance this year. Playing in the D League or going overseas?

I feel like overseas might give him a different opportunity and maybe more money, but the D League gives him a better shot at the NBA next season. Either way, good for him, chase the NBA dream before taking an office job.

The NBA likely isn't his future, no need to waste your time there. Go make some money and enjoy life and the experience overseas before starting your career.

That said, I'm definitely not going to count J-Mo out. I'm not sure if anyone would want to be a career 13th-15th man, especially someone who doesn't want to eventually coach, but if he wanted that life, it wouldn't shock me if he hung around on the deep bench of a few teams. He's a smart guy, a big body and would be an asset in practice.

Just from what I understand, that's not his dream, but I could be wrong. Guys with a wonderful attitude, work hard, and have the size and bulk of Morgan don't just grow on trees.

I'm watching Birdman Anderson play signifcant minutes for the NBA Champs in the NBA Finals. Anderson is a better basketball player than Morgan, obviously, but that style does have a place in the league.

Morgan would be able to give toughness and energy in practice, be a solid defender on your big that you're trying to get better and he's clearly a smart young man, so he's going to be a coach once he learns the system.

...no matter what he does, the guy is going to be successful.
