Need a reason to hate/dislike Jimmy Johnson? Now you have one, mgoboard. Apparently he hangs out with Urban Meyer and thinks Jim Harbaugh going back to Michigan is lame.

Via Houston Culture:

Jimmy Johnson jabs Bill Belichick, claims Jim Harbaugh took easy way out as he roars into Houston with Heart
The guy who turned the Miami Hurricanes into the most feared program in college football — and a cultural touchstone that's still relevant today — has become something of a coach guru. He goes fishing with Urban Meyer — with the Ohio State coach seeking out his expertise and bringing his son Nate along.
For all his wit and his current relaxed vibe, Johnson carries a strong sense of what's right and wrong in coaching.

That's why he's not going to join the chorus praising Jim Harbaugh for leaving the NFL to take on the Michigan job.

You want to call that move courageous? Please. Jimmy Johnson does not hesitate to paint going to a program as storied as Michigan as something of the easy way out.

"You look at the top schools in college and there's the chance to win 10, 11, 12 games and play for the national championship every year," he says. "The difference between the top schools and everyone else is just so huge.

"You're guaranteed by just showing up that you're going to win eight or nine. On the pro level, that's not the way it is. It's a grind."

If you are still wondering why Jimmy Johnson never returned to coaching despite some serious courting over the years, the way he talks about the extreme toll of NFL coaching now is instructive. "You have no life other than coaching in professional football," Johnson says. "In college, you at least have some opportunity to spend some time with your family."

YES, HARBAUGH TOOK THE EASY WAY OUT COMING TO HIS ALMA MATER. HE WILL MOST DEFINITELY NOT STAY. WAIT THOSE TWO THINGS ARE OPPOSITE, OH WHY DO YOU CONFUSE ME NFL

He is just a commentator now.  No pressure, easy life, still making good money.

I say he is much more lame for quitting on coaching altogether.  Why doesn't he take a jab at Meyer, for all I know he has no plans on jumping to the NFL which fore sure give him mutilple heart attacks, because Jimmy Johnson says it is much more of a grind.  Whatever.

w/ the Dolphins?  Hurricane's were what they were, but Jerry Jones and all the young talent on that Cowboy's team was at least as instrumental as he was to their success.  IMO, the success of some coaches (Phil Jackson, anyone) is as much a product of what they are handed.

Then I suppose he's also telling Meyer that he's taking the easy way out too. Meyer hasn't coached in the NFL, but I guarantee he's had the opportunity to do so, or he will one day. He'll have suitors lining up at his door. Is Johnson telling Meyer that he's lame too?

So let me get this right.  Jimmie Johnson is too big of a pussy to go back into coaching in the NFL but yet JH took the easy way out.  Douche bags in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

"You're guaranteed by just showing up that you're going to win eight or nine."

Well, that's certainly a very good point.

Minus the part where that's not  even remotely true.

So I guess by that logic, he thinks Urban Meyer and Nick Saban are taking the easy way out too, huh? I mean, they've each already won at least three national championships, and neither has successfully coached in the NFL...so, wouldn't staying at Bama and OSU be taking the "easy way out" too?

Oh wait, he likes Meyer?

Logic is fun!

September 8, 1984 at Michigan

Miami (2-0) had just beaten No. 1 ranked Auburn and No. 17 Florida in successive weeks on the road.

Miami was ranked No. 1 in both polls, playing at No. 14 Michigan (0-0) and their untested sophomore QB Jim Harbaugh.

Result: MICHIGAN 22, Miami 14

Johnson's '84 Hurricanes never recovered. Finished the season 7-5, losing by a butthair to UCLA in the Fiesta Bowl.

Johnson's team was destroyed by rival FSU 3-38 in the Orange Bowl (home stadium for Miami). Hurricanes then proceeded to lose their last three games by a total of 6 points.

But it was the loss at Michigan that brought reality crashing down on Jimmy Johnson in his first year, one year after Schnellenberger had the Canes at 11-1 and national champions.

So digging at Michigan and Harbaugh is completely understandable.

The same thing almost happened again in 1988 when Michigan led Miami 30-14 at one point, endangering another No. 1 ranking for the Hurricanes. But Johnson escaped Ann Arbor with a 31-30 win on a Carlos Huerta FG.

Yeah, he hates Michigan and Ann Arbor in general, and for good reasons.

So Jimmy Johnson complains about that in the NFL you have no family life or job security but he questions Harbaugh's decision to leave? Sounds like the epitome of hypocrisy to me.

JJ is the one who took the easy way out, tooling around for The Shield.  How tough is it to be a NFL Analyst?  What kind of grind is that, anyway?  Pontificate, voice-over clips, make a few picks, and generally Blow Hard.

but his comments seem totally contradictory. It's okay for Urban but not for Jim? Harbaugh SHOULD kill himself? How does any of that make sense? As if Urban isn't guaranteed x # of wins himself? Just sounds like another dumb jacktard.

"Jimmie has a sense of what's right and wrong in coaching" because he coached the dirtiest program in the history of college football? Yeah, he's probably an authority in what's wrong in coaching. Maybe he's still pissed about Harbaugh beating his #1 hurricanes.

I never did like him. I think he's snorted too much Aqua Net.
Now I have a reason to really dislike him.......talking bad about The Coach will not be tolerated.

He's a tool it's much easier to win the Super Bowl than it is to win a National Title now. Worst you can go is 14-1 to win a National Title. You can have a losing record win your division and still play for a Super Bowl if you get on a hot streak. Not to mention in the NFL everybody is on equal footing in college certain teams pay players which gives them a huge advantage.
