Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State After the Sugar Bowl?

Submitted by ryngonzalez on
Take it FWIW, but Twitter is abuzz about this rumor:
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

Small world- I actually knew that guy pretty well.  I played at Taylor with him.

He seemed like a pretty level headed guy.  I'm not sure why he would make a claim like this unless he's right or become less logical than he was about 5 years ago.

I'm not saying he's right- just that it gives me more pause that (to me) it's not some random idiot making an outrageous claim...that it's a guy I knew personally who seemed like a very reasonable individual.

I'm going to try to get ahold of him and see if I can get anything out of him about his 'sources'...

Hard to believe no reputable source has picked up on this if it were legit.  If they have informed recruits (teenagers) it should have been all over the internet by now.

Why would he tell recruits first?  It makes no sense.  He can always tell them later and they can commit elsewhere, it's not like it's 1 day before signing day.

Just doesn't make sense.

Also, Paul is dead!

We all know that this is too good to be true. I'll believe this one when I hear it from a real source. Why do we torture ourselves like this?

Who knows, maybe there's some more trouble coming down the pipe for tOSU.

It almost looks like he's pulling a Ron Meyer or Pete Caroll.  Jump ship before the ship completely sinks.

Regardless if he steps down or not....I'll never figure out how Michigan gets bashed for practicing twenty minutes too long and Ohio State gets in huge trouble for a few players selling some stuff while another large group of players can dress up in camo, beat up innocent students and be completely absolved of any wrongdoing or punishment in the eyes of the media. I know the thought is semi-OT to this thread but it keeps coming up in my mind when discussing the OSU situation.

He didn't specify which rumors, hmmm? A closer reading of this tweet suggests he's responding to rumors of bad eggnog or rumors that Gene Smith spends too much time watching NBA games.

Seriously. Hasn't twitter made the world so strange???

If I was in the business of surprising you, I might be disappointed.  As it is, it's of no concern to me.

You don't know this - but, I graduated from MSU.  We have our own "tally" of days that some of us (regrettably, IMHE) keep track of and remind M people of (rudely, IMHE).  In that context, I think your comment is stupid.

It takes a petty individual to keep track of these things, and then go on the rival's board to remind them of it.  It accomplishes nothing.  And it says nothing of your merits - you're just a fan.  You had nothing to do with it.

Finally, the term "salty" does not make any sense.

I usually will try to give a reason for why I negged someone - hopefully, you have a full and cohesive account.

Damn, this is as polemical as I've been.

You were just called out by a Michigan State fan for being classless.  Evidently you didn't bother reading his response.  The word "dream" has nothing to do with it.  No one is looking for a fight.  Back to Mordor with you.

"Dream" is a fine word.  So is "dreaming."  Both the simple tense and the progressive tense of the verb are just fine.  I also don't see any mention of "fighting" or "fighting words" in my posts.  As such, your reply confuses me.

It's, in fact, the tally you mentioned that caught my attention.  I apologize here - I'm projecting frustrations with my own fanbase onto you.  Well. . . not really, because you did the same stupid tally thing.  So I guess I'm just observing.  I take my apology back.

Whaddit I tell ya?  The Spartan version of Irish . . . if Irish ever told a Buckeye what it is.

WD, you were unfairly criticized on this board the other day for nothing more than posting-while-Spartan.  I regret that I did not stand up for you more vigorously.

I appreciate your sentiment.

I understand the risk of posting on a rival's board - sometimes my own preferences will get knocked.  It doesn't bother me.

I take your comparison of me to Irish as a high compliment; that guy is funny and insightful.
