Jim Tressel Leaving Ohio State After the Sugar Bowl?

Submitted by ryngonzalez on
Take it FWIW, but Twitter is abuzz about this rumor:
On Christmas Day, two sources that are very close to recruiting at prominent universities confirmed that Jim Tressel will no longer be the head football coach at Ohio State University after the Sugar Bowl against Arkansas.

The only reason I have found comfort in losing to tOSU is that my perception of Tressel is a coach that does things right and represents what's right with college football. My eyebrows were raised when the Pryor incident  went down because of the number of athletes involved and the culpability of a coach for his teams' lack of charecter. (Many could argue this shows lots of charecter, all questionable). It seems to go against the grain of my perception of him, but I don't know him personally.

If there are more things coming down the pipeline, I am really disappointed by collegiate football being so corrupt. If its all this corrupt, just pay the guys and label it what you will.

Crap like this and Scam Newton tarnish the collegiate game IMHO, and it doesn't make my Christmas better, it just lumps us (Big10) into the same category as them (SEC). It seems like just a potential mess if true.

I wouldn't feel great about him leaving before we take a little piece of him. Cheering for a guy to retire because we can't beat him is not the most prideful feeling.

That's an internet meme that won't die.  Carr gave a normal handshake and just happened to be photographed as he was turning away.

Carr had some issues dealing with the press, but I don't think any opposing coach ever had a personal issue with him.

This article seems like a joke.  The only replacement candidate they talk about is Spielman.  That takes the ridiculousness to a whole notha level.

Edit:  It was changed to Patterson from TCU

That's how you can tell it's bullshit.  If he was leaving, Hazell and Fickell wouldn't have left before the coaching search.  And Patterson wouldn't be one of the choices-it'd be Hazell, Fickell, Bob Stoops, maaaybe Urban Meyer, or someone with strong ties to OSU and coaching experience.  Bo Pelini was a strong possibility before his meltdown, but Patterson?  Not happening unless the search goes to hell.  I can see Glenn Mason before Patterson.

Recruits were told starting yesterday that Tressel will no longer be the coach and can start looking elsewhere. Looks like some major compliance issues are coming down soon.

No way this is true. Christmas has never been this good to me before.

I think it's all speculation in light of what just happened. Natural reaction you could say. I'll believe it when I see it.

Or Lynn Henning.  Or Michael Wilbon. Or... well, you get the idea.

I just don't know how any of these people are still employed.  They have very simple job descriptions.  Get information, confirm it, report it.  When in doubt, say so.  Unless there are extremely good and compelling journalistic reasons, you require your sources to go on the record.  Only in extreme, rare circumstances would you not identify yhour sources.

In this case, it's a bit complicated because I am not sure that "Tab," the fatassed suburban Chicago jackoff who first "published" this rumor, actually has a job to begin with.  Firing him would be like firing Kramer.

should we believe anything he says? So I click the "About Tab" link: Tab is a former Clarendon Hills Little League All Star who played football, swam and ran track at Hinsdale Central High School before playing football at Taylor University (Upland, IN). The father of Matthew and husband of Kristin currently has Blackhawks season tickets and a passion for all things Chicago. OK, his credentials make him an unimpeachable source. How could I have ever doubted him?
