Jim Mora to Interview for NY Jets Job

Submitted by UMCoconut on

Per Football Scoop, Bruin Report, Scout and several other sources.

This could be a big recruiting opportunity for Michigan with regards to KLS, Clark, and potentially others.

Recruits hate uncertainty. (Look at what happened to Devin Gardner and you know why.)

UCLA is now a very uncertain destination for recruits.  It may all work out fine . . . but it might not.

I don't see how he interviews unless he's pretty certain he's going to get the job...or another in the NFL. Otherwise, he's just handed every other college coach in the country a significant recruiting advantage that will hang over him for the next few years.

If we've learned one thing from the past day, it's that interviewing for higher-esteemed jobs can help you leverage more of what you want in your current job. He definitely could be interviewing for NFL jobs to get more out of UCLA (whether it's money, facilities, etc.).

Apart from that, I wouldn't put too much into this, I think the Jets job is Marrone's to lose and they're waiting to hire a GM who will match his personality and continuing to interview candidates in the meantime.  I'd be more worried if I were a UCLA fan if the 49ers interviewed him.

he was not our B-1 guy if we didn't get JH.   Could have been deja vu.

Does UCLA have a good S&C guy we could poach?

The fact that he did come up as a plan B candidate (and Sam Webb was all over him for weeks) and now this seems to suggest he may be really shopping around for a new job

Michigan doesn't play ND anymore, his teams went 2-3 against M, and, IMO, overall he has been only above average in South Bend.  Yes, his team "played" for a title in 2012 (thanks to enough luck to make M's 2011 season look downright hapless), but aside from that he's lost five games three times and four games once.

ND recruits like gangbusters and yet Kelly has only one season of double-digit wins in five years.

I thought it was as long as he didn't participate in football he could transfer, but would have to foot the bill for the next semester.

ESPN is saying Marrone is the front runner. However ESPN saying an NFL guy is the leader for an NFL job over a college guy is kind of funny.

Especially considering Mora is one of the most NFL-like college coaches out there along with Harbaugh and Saban.
