As a Dolphin fan from outside the Miami area, I've enjoyed listening to Jim as the color guy for the Dolphins. I hope he's able to overcome this serious illness.
Jim Mandich battling cancer
I remember Jim Mandich got interviewed about the 1969 Michigan team that he played on. He said in all the games in his career, including the 1972 Miami Dolphins undefeated Super Bowl team, the one game that was most valuable to him if he had to pick one game would be that 1969 Michigan team that beat OSU. He said Bo had that team so fired up it was unreal. He said they would scream and get mean even while taking showers.
Here's to a quick recovery. Cancer is a bitch, something my family knows all too well.
A true Meeechigan Man and sports hero. My prayers are with you buddy!!
I'll never forget the film of Mandich leaving the stadium after the 1969 OSU game. Giving everyone high-fives. Completely spent.
The guy left it all on the field that day.
Here's to a speedy recovery, Jim.
Best wishes to him and his family. Hope he has a good and speedy recovery.
Oh no, this sucks
I had the pleasure of meeting him a few times watching the games with the UM alumni association of south FL at Shula's. The first time I was there with a friend, had no idea who he was, and he invited us sit at his table. We chatted throughout the afternoon, told us his son was a freshman on the team (we didn't even make the connection when we saw that his son's jersey said Mandich), he bought us a ton of beers and heard stories about the team. It was not until after he left and we turned around and saw his Dolphins jersey hanging on the wall that we realized who he was.
Great guy and a great family, wishing him a very quick recovery.
I encourage everyone to hunt down and read the article that Angelique did for the DetNews talking about Lloyd's last week as coach, and the team's preparations before they played Florida. Mandich apparently gave a wonderful, wonderful talk to the players before the game.
Best wishes to him and his family.
