Jim Hackett Appreciation Thread

Submitted by Winchester Wolverine on
Purely speculation, but 5 years from now when UM is officially back on the map and we're celebrating a national championship thanks to Harbaugh and Co. lest we not forget the man that reinstated what it means to be a Wolverine. He comes in, lays down the law, gets the top available coach in America, and reunites the school with Nike because the coach wanted it. The players wanted it. The FANS wanted it. And all with the iron balls to pretty much say "meh, my work here will be done soon. I will be off to spread my miracle work elsewhere". Good luck to the entire reptilian species when Jim Hackett says, "Fuck that crocodile."

I was skeptical at first when Schlissel replaced Brandon with another CEO, but got damn did he get it right. I didn't know much about Steelcase or how it operated with Hackett.

So props to Schlissel as an outsider getting his first big hire right and Hackett for actually understanding our qualms about the program and greater AD.

I like to think of Hackett like with giant eagles wings, and singin' lead vocals for Lynyrd Skynyrd with like an angel band and I'm in the front row and I'm hammered drunk

...that is not what makes a good AD.

In fact, if Brandon did each of these things...I'd personally, still think he was an idiot for everything else he did or didn't do.

Regardless, hiring coaches and apparel contracts are not what make a good AD. It's part of the equation, but in no way does this make a great AD.

Why? What makes a good AD then? Goss was let go because he couldn't negotiate deals and the AD was in the red. Brandon was let go in part because of not hiring a good coach among other things. If he had gotten Harbaugh, Saban, Meyer etc. to come here in 2011, he's probably still here even if the relationship between him and the rest of the university officials is not very good.

I have to say that for an interim AD who walked into a shitshow with a directive that was essentially "just do it", in the last several months and on several different fronts, Hackett just did it. Indeed, I think the entire era of Hackett to date seems to be more or less a couple actions followed by "Boom" on a nearly weekly basis at points. To that end, when does the "interim" part of this get dropped again?
