Jerseyz(?) Update: We Are Wearing 1974 Away (White Pants) Throwbacks This Season

Submitted by Tuebor on

I don't know if this is a jerseyz update or not but I heard that Harbaugh wants us in 1974 throwbacks for away game jerseys this year. That year the away jerseys had white pants. Personally I don't mind them.

This is a rumor I've heard on twitter that I really wouldn't be surprised by.

I honestly don't know how I feel.

If you have NCAA Football 13, you can do a sample and put the 2011 white pants on the road uniform and it looks......strange.

IMO, crap or get off the pot with the white pants. This should've already been done in 2009 but someone pulled the plug at the last minute.

Question for the board, and by board I mean you. I just rewatched the 2008 Wisky game today, who was ranked 9 at the time. When was the last time Michigan beat a top-9 team? I don't think it was either Va Tech or Tebow's Florida...want to say they were in the 10-12 range. Was it either PSU in 2007 or PSU 2005?

You said top-9? Wisconsin was ranked #9.

Prior to that, it was the Capital One Bowl over #9 Florida in 2007. Florida was the AP #9, which is what basically everyone goes by.

Before that, it was the 14-9 win over #9 Penn State that same 2007 season where Ryan Mallett scored the rushing TD in the corner of the South endzone while showboating all the way there.

#2 Notre Dame in 2006 was Michigan's last win over a top-5 ranked team.

EVERYBODY remembers the Mallett TD in the Southeast corner.  He was showboating and Jake Long told him something along the lines of "that's not how we do it at Michigan".  I'm 50 years old......and that's the most hungover I ever remember being watching a game (party at my house the night before).

I meant besides Wisconsin. And I double-checked and unfortunately you are not correct. PSU 2007 was 10 in both polls. Florida was 9 in AP and 12 in coaches poll. Wisconsin was 9 and 8 respectively. So our best win in the last 8 seasons, in terms of opponent rank, came in 2008. Sigh.

I'm totally on board. This is a really slick look, and I think it will POP on TV broadcasts. Aerial views tend to muddy graphic nuance, so IMO it is better to make a bold graphic statement with uniforms, particularly in away games. Also, white is ice fuckin' cold.

"FUCK THESE THREADS"

*posts in thread*

The best way to make them go away is to ignore them. The Jumpman thread down there is getting close to 300 comments. Apparel threads get the comments and clicks. If these things really didn't matter to people, they'd have 5 comments in them.

I don't mind the 72-74 away jersey...even if we do kind of look like Penn State with winged helmets. At least they're actual throwbacks instead of a bunch of random crap thrown on with required stripes running up the sleeves. But I don't know about EVERY road game. That seems a bit much.

I fired up the old EA Teambuilder and tried to do a sample of what it might look like.

Ignore the old road jersey.

IF and only if there is a change made to the road uniforms every once in awhile as alternate pants, I really love the look of Blue pants. I did last year in the UTL game.

There, I said it. They look terrible with our helmet and color scheme - they work for PSU because they have a white helmet. For us, we have a super unique helmet and white on white makes it go from unique to just "busy" - it's the only thing you see.

I also agree, I wouldn't mind going maize pants at home (of course) and blue away...if not, just keep it maize only.

I DO like taking all piping, collars and stripes off the white jerseys. However, we need to outline the navy numbers and letters on the nameplates in maize so that we don't look like PSU.

We almost had it right last year, but we had the piping and the blue collar. The maize pants make the maize outline on the numbers "pop"/match.

I think the white away jerseys with the blue pants and the bright yellow block M on the pants is a great look.

It's the only combination we haven't tried.  We should give it a shot.  It's not like our road unis have been a sacred consistent look across all time.
