As long as we win, I don't care. I thought the UTL jerseys looked good and I'll gladly take some jersey changes and winning over traditional jerseys only and the RR era losing.

In the end, it's still all about winning and getting back respect for Michigan.

I dont hate alternate jersyes per se but there are certain programs that dont need that gimmick. Alabama is the prime example to me I suppose. Make winning your shtick and you'll be fine. I think Texas and Oklahoma would be  on the list too. USC. The teams that have been premier teams for decades and decades. Michigan has the longest history of being a premier program so leaving the jersy alone is just fine.

M's uniform is consistently rated as one of the best in CFB, why mess with that?Tweaks are one thing, wholesale deviation is another.  It'd be like Coca Cola changing to Helvetica or something.

The way the NFL has handled their logo evolution is pretty spot on, IMO.

If we're going down this road I'd propose we do it for 'new prime games'. Wear them against Nebraska for example. Wear them for the marquee OOC games...which leaves me conflicted here. Michigan vs. Notre Dame is so old school, I'd choose to keep the classic uni's if it were my call to make.

eh, its not though. I hope I like them.

Why some are a little disappointed that Gardner is wearing #98 and lies with the fact that he really hasn't earned THAT right to wear THAT legendary jersey. Only six starts in which he has shown he can be inconsistent with his performance doesn't look like a sufficient résumé to wear a number made famous by Harmon

In truth I'm not sure who has really done enough on there resume to wear that jersey for an entire season. Maybe there hoping Gardner can earn wearing that jersey this season or it will motivate him to play at his best to do #98 proud. I have no problem with the legends jersey schtick as long as its earned, I like the idea although most don't.

winning helps perception. Had we lost UTL1 I wouldn't be as big of a fan (not a huge one but give a "stitching and such is kinda cool" opinion) if those. The same for the Sugar Bowl jersey. Yet, win or lose some are just wrong. The bumblebee unis were atrocious, win or lose. Outback Bowl? wtf were those things? Bama game was like a mix of bumblebees and regulars. I admit to living our old Nike/Carr era alternates which were worn maybe 3 times and in revenge home ganes. They were nothing more than a darker blue, all wearing knee high socks and the true color of maize as opposed to highlighter yellow. I'm 30. I'm open to small, classy changes for legit big games. I'm don't yell for kids to get off my lawn. Yet, this shit has to stop. SMALL, CLASSY CHANGES IN A BIG GAME LIKE TONIGHT? Ok. Fine. Other than that, just stick to our normals. We're not Oregon and don't need to be. Our unis speak for themselves.

On a positive note... no one can say that Michigan is "old and stodgy" any more.  DB and his Marketing guy are at least trying new things and staying "current".

However, there is something to be said for tradition.  Not tradition for the sake of tradition...but traditional thoughts such as pride, focus etc.  Some of that gets lost every time one of these unis gets rolled out.

My bet is that they're the maize tops. Also, after reading through this thread it reminds me that regardless of us rooting for the same team, there's a good portion of you that I just don't like. Some of you just cannot stop complaining.

crap for posting this, but I like the atlernate jerseys, and my dad does as well.  Other than not being able to see the numbrs in the bowl game, I've liked every jersey they've put out over the last few years.

Also, just my 2 cents, but isn't it really about what the players want? A kid from my high school was being recruited by d1 football teams, and I asked him about some schools, and one of the first things he would mention was "their uniforms are sick". So, if the recruits like it, and the players want it, they should get it.  IT SHOULD NOT be about what a bunch of people on an online board want.

It's not simply about what the players want. Or what Brandon wants. Or what some people on an online board want, although that's a bit closer than the first two.

This is dovetailing with another almost-but-not-quite-off-topic train of thought I've been having about the university presidency and why I think Krislov would be an ideal choice, and it's this. His approach to his first presidency job has been to understand, and to make it clear that he understands, that he's just passing through, that the institution he's in charge of is much bigger than he is, even much bigger than the people that have, unlike him, dedicated their entire adult lives to it, and his job is to support and build on that tradition, not to simply impose some vision of his own. He has ideas of his own, of course, but he never throws his weight around to push them through.

I'm not opposed to any change whatsoever, that's not what I'm saying. But we're talking about a football program that's older than any of us and its traditions shouldn't simply be tossed to the winds and to the whims of a particular collection of 18-22-year-olds. Or an AD, for that matter.

If it is maize jerseys, I would really like that. I think that we should have three sets of jerseys - blue (home), white (road) and maize (alternative home or away jersey). Maize jerseys to be worn twice per year - once at home and once on the road. I always love it when the b-ball team breaks out the maize. They should make the jerseys consistent year to year, but have three options

I can kind of semi-deal with the alternate uniforms as long as they're freaking BLUE. Also, they're not "alternate uniforms" when you wear them for every big national game. You now just have 10 different uniforms.

Nevertheless, I'll wait to pass judgment until I see them. Maybe they just added some stupid patch or something.

You guys sure do complain a lot, especially about inconsequential things. The kids seem to like it, let them have their fun -- stop acting like a bunch of whiney bitches for once!

Both sides of this argument have valid points. My thing is if you're gonna have alternate jerseys just make sure they look nice. I've only really been upset about the white bumble bee jersey in EL a couple years back.
