That was good but its still only unofficial!
Jeremy Gallon runs a 4.45 40!!!
He measured in at 5'7. That will hurt his draft stock. But I don't think it matters when he is drafted. He would be a steal in the 3rd round. He just makes plays. And plays much bigger than 5'7.
In the 3rd round he wouldn't be a steal. That's implying he's a first or second round talent. He's not. He might have a nice career, but he'd be a steal in 5-7. Nobody will take a chance on him any higher than that.
I don't think you're right. I think someone takes him in 3-4th. They'd be stupid not to.
I believe Lucky Socks was saying that he'd be a steal in the 5th-7th rounds, but that he fits in the 3rd-4th rounds. So you're essentially saying the same thing.
But he plays like he's 5'8".
Tavon Austin was the 8th overall pick last year, and he measured 5'8" at the combine. Gallon isn't as ridiculously explosive as Austin, but I think a lot of NFL teams are starting to look beyond height in a receiver, particularly now that everyone uses spread formations with slot receivers.
I just hope he ends up on a decent team that knows how to use a slot receiver, not some crappy team like Jacksonville.
Of course he measured 5"7. Did you expect him to magically be 6ft ? We have known he's short, but this forty time is great ! He seemed shifter than fast to me, I expected a mid 4.5. Great news for Gallon !
i'm going to file his height as a non factor since the man can leap vertically at twice that height. not to mention the ball magnet hands, and the romulan star empire cloaking device built in.
Didn't he get best time among top OL prospects?
What's most impressive to me about lewan is that with him at 300 pound and me at 175, it would take a distance of at least 200 meters for me to even come close to beating him in a foot race. And, it would take at least a half mile for me to soundly beat him.
It's absolutely incredible how explosive he is.
was 6th among the OL (made the scrolling list on NFL Network).
should have trained like Gallon, Gallon's way faster....
I would take gallon in a second in one of the later rounds. Best of luck to a true warrior and Michigan man.
4.42 on the second run (unofficial of course)
Nice! Even faster. How many runs do they get? Any chance he cracks the 4.3 wall?
Hes second run was a 4.42
For the patriots.
I am hoping he goes to Detroit in the 4th or 6th. He is a good blocker and the Lions need somebody other than a RB to go underneath with a big catching radius.
I was thinking the same thing. Brady would love a weapon like Gallon. The other team I could see him fitting well with is Chicago. With the two big receivers constantly drawing attention on the outside Gallon would get some great match ups in the slot. Add the TE Chicago has and that is a point scoring machine. Also, living here in Denver I hear some rumors about the Broncos dropping Welker to be able to resign Decker (which receivers they should keep is a big talk radio topic out here), and if they go that route Gallon would be a great weapon for Manning. Hope Gallon has a great NFL career.
Yea. Brady to Gallon. I could cheer for that.
No true Michigan fan should ever wish that fate on a Wolverine.
I bet he'll get drafted late and stick in the NFL for years as a ninja slot guy. He's just too good for his size
It's a pretty safe bet that he's a mid round guy.
I look for someone like the Eagles to draft him. Especially since they're about to lose Maclin.
They need to slot guy in Kelly's offense. Patriots are a right fit in scheme, but they need outside WR help.
Height isn't a big factor at slot so these times could sneak Gallon into the fourth round. I'm proud of Gallon because he worked hard to make himself a very good receiver.
Brandin cooks with the fastest time so far at 4.30. That should help the biletnikof winner. To bad he spells his name wrong.
I honestly was expecting a slower time. He's going to be a solid NFL receiver.
I've been bouncing between the two online feeds trying to catch him and haven't seen him.
Btw anyone catch Latimer's bench? Looked effortless getting to 20.
He would be so much easier to spot. Just caught him catch a curl but without them calling his name I wouldn't have known.
Bad throws or he was just missing the ball?
He caught them all. Most humans are too slow to notice how quickly he discards the ball after a secured catch.
If that skill translated to a football edge, Gallon would be the #1 overall pick.
That's cuz he's a ninja.
Man I really hope he goes somewhere that utilizes the slot man or have a QB that can get him the ball. He deserves that! I'll be a huge fan wherever he goes!
But both Welker and Amendola have carved out roles after going undrafted despite outstanding college production. Given the depth of this WR draft, that very well may be Gallon's fate.
Ya but he plays like he's 5'9''
Come to Indy, Jeremy!!!
Great showing. Still a little short, but he'd be a terror in space on the right team.
I think he did Ok he didnt really Wow everyone Like Taylor Lewan
Michigan NFL talent Pool has declined considerably for developing players for the NFL Level Yes it has a history yes it has Tradition however When Johnny Football runs a time comParable to one of Michigans best Athletes Jeremy Gallon what is that saying...Brady Hoke needs get staff too recruit against guys like Urban Meyer and Mark Dantonio Kevin Sumlin Nick Saban etc. Then Michigan players will have more revelance then just Hype and past Glory..I dont see it happening under Hoke he is a JOKE
Are you from East Lansing or tWSE?
There is so much wrong with your post.
First of all, what difference does it make if "Johnny Football" (whose 40 time I don't know) runs close to the same time as Jeremy Gallon? Even in a good year, most teams don't have a participant in the Combine who runs a 4.45 forty. All that means (if Manziel was close) is that Manziel ran a very good 40 time and is a good athlete, which...well...he won the Heisman and stuff.
Secondly, Hoke's first recruits - the ones he got with about three weeks left in the 2011 recruiting cycle - just finished their junior or redshirt sophomore seasons, and none of them have even had a chance to particpate in the NFL Combine yet or get drafted.
Third, your post seems like a bunch of incoherent babble.
Fourth, the "Hoke is a joke" rhymes are lazy and old.
I refuse to call him "Johnny Football" in place of his actual name.
He ran something like a 4.69, so he wasn't even close to Gallon. In fact, he was over .2 slower.
The troll can't even get its facts straight.
Manziel's 40 time was actually closer to Taylor Lewan's than it was Jeremy Gallon's.
...the best way to deal with a troll is to silently neg him and move on. Responding to him is the last thing you want to do.
While you were gone, there has been no shortage of MGoBlog articles on the ridiculous attrition rates of the weak 2009-2011 recruiting classes. Shocking how sparse upper-class production translates into a limited number of NFL prospects.
You should get back to maintaining your big cat big dreamz blog.
Gallon needs to get in a system and stick. If he can do that, he will have a solid NFL career. I see Lance Moore when I see Gallon
might be a better comparison. Possession/red zone guy in college whose hands, consistency, and lack of prima donna attitude in the pros keep him around much longer than one might have surmised by lack of draft buzz.
Eh, Moore fits all those descriptions but also fits Gallon's physique and style of play better than Avant.
Moore is short (5'9") and benefitted from sticking around a system for a few years and eventually broke out as a dependable option. I think Gallon will do the same if he is afforded the opportunity to stay in one system for a couple years. Both were able to stretch the field despite their size in college, and ran similar 40 times at the combine.
Im no Michigan Hater Love Big Blue I just dont I think people are really willing to admit he was not a good hire Mark Dantonio Nick Saban Urban Meyer Kevin Sumlin Or Brian Kelly he is not in the conversation of Elite College Coaches producing Top NFL Ready talent Im just being honest That is that is the word
.Say what you want Rich Rod could produce better NFL ready than Hoke look at the numbers
We don't get many Kentucky fans round here.
How many different people played basketball with your head when you were a child?
all Canada bashing from the other thread because of this one post. I almost dropped my laptop reading it. Too damn funny.
Sure you love Michigan...that's why you call them Big Blue. No true Michigan fan calls Michigan Big Blue. You are just a TROLL.
I thought I recognized his elegant syntax from a previous post.
Good for Gallon!!! Hope he goes to a good team
double post.....please delete
May he be drafted and utilized as god intended. He was always quick but it is great to see he is fast too. In the end though, it is his quickness and ability to be the type of route runner that can get separation that is going to keep him in the league and performing at a very high level. Whatever team drafts him will get an absolute steal and an amazing third down possession reciever who could really grow into a number 2 threat. I think once he gets the hang of running routes from the slot - he will be exceptional.
Because the Lions are steeped in cultural mediocrity (or at times looking up at medocrity wistfully as if it is an almost unattainable aspirational goal) I suspect they won't draft him. But it would be great if they did.
Can you post this to the MGoBoard so it will bump to the top of the page?
Here are some of the other Big Ten wide receivers and their times as posted on the NFL site so far (unofficial right now, I believe)....
Jared Abbredaris (Wisconsin) - 4.44
Corey Brown (Ohio State) - 4.37
Quincy Enunwa (Nebraska) - 4.40
Some of the faster times overall - Brandin Cooks of Oregon State put up an unofficial 4.30, as did John Brown of Pittsburg State. Bruce Ellington of South Carolina and Odell Beckham of LSU ran a 4.31.
Hope he gets drafted to a decent team. Would love to see Gallon have a nice career.
I'm an idiot...
Nik is on FIYA on every plane in the universe.
4.49 second to only Quincy Enunwa in the big ten at 4.45
Anyone know why Gallon hasn't posted a vert or broad jump yet? Most of the others have.
Looks like he didn't participate in those events. He's actually got bigger hands than Taylor Lewan as well. His NFL combine page is here: http://www.nfl.com/combine/profiles/jeremy-gallon?id=2543818
Love how it says his production is a result of "schemed bubble screens". Did the person who wrote his profile see even a second if him playing?
They want to make sure they're natural and not implants.
I wouldn't say "many." MAYBE one or two, and he more than made up for all of that.
I think he may be drafted in the first three rounds. I may be putting to much stock in the 40 but I hope someone falls in love with him.
It's better than expected but from the NFL's point of view only validates that he was a legit college receiver. There are enough kids in the Combine to fill several teams top-to-bottom and they're all rookies. Gallon wasn't a top performer in any category.
I expect him to go in the 6th round, if he's drafted at all. Why? Because I'm a hater? No, because ironically of ALL the things the NFL looks at in the draft, the LAST one is the ability to play football. It's why Ryan Leaf went #2 and Tom Brady fell to the 6th round (no, I still haven't forgotten that). The draft isn't about who's the best baller but who has the highest ceiling, and Gallon's physical limitations are obvious. He already plays way above his size but that means he's not expected to get much better. Gallon isn't a high draft pick or even 2nd day pick because he's like 98% baller and 2% talent. He just plays some goddamned football.
I see him more as a late-round pick that everyone expects to see cut in camp, and winds up having a 12-year career because after all the beautiful physical specimens have washed out, the smart hardworking guy who shows up early every day to study tape and memorizes the 500-page playbook by the first day of camp outworks everyone to a starting job. He won't be breaking any records but there are places in the league for a guy like Gallon after the coach has lost patience with all the prima donnas with scout-seducing talent that won't run a crisp route even after a hundred reps.
Which means he won't be picked up by a horrendous franchise with a high early round pick.
Love to see him on NE, Denver, SF, or even Seattle.
And he has freakishly huge hands.
Definitely a kid I'm rooting my ass off for - Gallon balled his heart out for this school.
I'll cheer for him wherever he goes.
