Jeremy Gallon NFL prospects

Submitted by KAYSHIN15 on
If you’re like me, then there was a point in Jeremy Gallon’s career when I was certain that he had no shot at making an NFL roster. Especially after seeing him muff punts like that’s what he was taught to do and realizing that he’s not fast at all. Now, after watching his career steadily trend upward for the past 3 years, do you think he has a shot at a sustained career in the NFL or even better does he get drafted in the first 2 days? I look at players in the NFL like Wes Welker, Danny Amendola, and think Gallon can do what these guys are doing. I also realize that Welker is putting together a Hall of Fame career so I am certainly not comparing the 2 at this point. It also helps that these guys have 2 of the greatest QBs in history throwing to them, but what does the board think of his draft prospects and subsequent career projection?

Will come down to his combine performance. If he runs well, he'll get drafter in the 2-4 round range. I think he will be prepared with the correct form and starting stance. Maybe Barwis will train him.

except faster. Steve isnt a legit 5'9 either so that works in Gallon's favor. However, Smith ran a 4.39 at the combine. If Jeremy does that (and he wont by the way), he's a sure fire 2nd round pick. However, I think we all expect mid 4.5 at best...

He has a 40 time listed (I guess from HS camps? He went to the Army All-Star game) at 4.42, which is virtually indistinguishable from Smith's.

How "fake" that is, I don't know.

Anyway, I agree that I'd be shocked if he was picked in the 2nd or 3rd round, like Smith was. I'm merely saying that his height doesn't limit him to playing in the slot - it appears as if many of his assets actually lend themselves to the outside.

Santana Moss, De'vry Henderson, Laverneous Coles, Lee Evans have all had reputable NFL careers despite being under 6'0".

If he runs the reported time and can catch, run routes and spin like he does I'd say he'd get drafted and catch on.

Two years ago I was tailgating in the victors parking lot and there were a bunch of 9 to 13 year old kids playing pick up football.   Gallon came walking by and they started talking to him.   It didn't look like he knew them at all, but he ended up playing pick up football with them in the parking lot for about 45 minutes.   I don't know if that helps hm get into the NFL, but seems like a pretty cool guy to do that.

Look at Tavon Austin (the top WR pick in last year's draft, going in the Top 10). Gallon is not nearly as quick as Austin, but they're basically the same size and Gallon has fantastic hands/body control.

As mentioned earlier, the Patriots would have KILLED for somebody like Gallon last night. With the NFL basically eliminating hits by DBs across the middle, you don't have to be Calvin Johnson or Dez Bryant sized (though that is always nice) to be a very effective NFL receiver.

Thus, I think Gallon will go in the Top 100 picks. He's had huge games against big-time opponents, so he's building up great "tape" for scouts to drool over.

I agree that the Patriots could have used someone like Gallon last night (that Patriots offense was ugly), but not only is Austin REALLY fast, but he adds the dimension of being able to return punts and kickoffs, and perhaps play running back, run reverses, etc.

Granted, you aren't saying that Gallon should be drafted in the first round, but he doesn't have anywhere near that same talent as a runner. I wouldn't want him returning punts in the NFL, running out of the backfield, or even running reverses, because he's not that super-fast jitterbug player. If I were an NFL offensive coordinator, I'd want to use Gallon in the slot, on the outside, and perhaps as a part-time kickoff returner. Personally, I don't think teams usually need to draft a guy like that in the third round.

I'm just thinking a guy like Austin, as quick and versatile as he is, wouldn't have been a Top 10 pick even a few years ago due to his size. Now, b/c of rule changes and offensive schemes changing, his size isn't as much of a factor.

Thus, I figure with Gallon, who has good speed (though again, nothing like Austin's electric quicks), great hands, and great body control, will be more valuable than we might think (i.e., 3rd rd instead of 5th).

We'll see -- he'll probably go in the 4th round to split the difference.

Ask yourself when the last time you remember Gallon dropping a pass... I cannot remember....   he will find a home in the slot in the NFL... he reminds me of Peter Warrick.  Forget his return game... he will play the slot, and thrive.

He reminds me a bit of Deion Branch who was drafted in the 2nd round, though I think coming out of college Branch had a bit more top end speed/quickness. In his prime though, Branch was mainly a shifty guy who ran great routes, had great hands, and blocked well despite his 5'9 frame. He did that on the outside as well, like Gallon thus far in college, not in the slot.

Get him with a QB who really values precise route running and good hands over pure size/speed and I think Gallon's got a quality NFL future. Like Branch in Seattle though, if he doesn't end up in the right system or with the right QB, goings could be pretty rough.

Not fast at all? BS original poster. He may not be a burner straight ahead, but Gallon is quick as hell and tough to cover. Have you seen him on isocam? He runs great routes and has flypaper for hands. He could do very well in the NFL slot. LBs and safeties will be challenged to cover him. Gallon is a great athlete. He has a good shot in the right offense like NE for example.
