Jeremy Gallon at East-West Shrine Game

Submitted by chatster on
I might’ve missed them, but I can’t recall having seen any threads about Jeremy Gallon at the East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Florida that will be played this Saturday.

One analyst says that he was the best wide receiver for the East Team in the January 15 practice session.  http://www.optimumscouting.com/draft/articles/2014-shrine-game-wednesday-east-practice-notes.html

The best receiver today was Michigan’s Jeremy Gallon, who consistently got the type of separation I was optimistic we’d see this week. The smallest receiver here, Gallon needed to prove he can get free route-wise other than on underneath drag routes and deep comebacks. So far, he’s done it this week. Much of it is thanks to his quickness at the top of his routes. He snaps his head around so quickly, transitioning from a smooth, appearing-to-be slow start into a quick burst away from his defender.

Another analyst says that Gallon should be linked to another player who once wore a winged helmet in college, University of Delaware alumnus Joe Flacco of the Baltimore Ravens.

Another analyst has some links to the coverage of the practice sessions.

Final Thoughts:

It might be time to revise the comment about Jeremy being “five-eight, but he plays like he’s five-nine.”  He was measured at 5-7 and 3/8 and 183 pounds.  (I suspect that his skill, his heart, his mind, his attitude and his video-bombing ability probably measured off the charts.)

In a surprise move, the bowl sponsors have Jeremy rooming with Jackmerius Tacktheritrix from Michigan State.

I wish the best for Mr. Gallon. I'm not an X's and O's expert by any means, but I think he fits New England's mold and Brady would love to have someone with his hands and ability to get open. He'd be a steal in the bottom half of the draft for any NFL team.

I'd love to see the Lions go for him.  It'd be nice to add another passing threat, and I think his play would compliment Megatron greatly. Plus I'd get to continue to see him play. I'm not to worried about his 40 time. His elusivity is what makes him dangerous.

Not sure they need him with Edelman and Amendola unless they want a replacement/back up at a lower price. I'm sure he'd thrive there, but I don't know if he will be high enough on their list to still be around when they would draft him.

I agree that he's probably not a priority for the team, but Amendola has a history of injuries and missed time this year. I'd love to have Gallon as a plan B (or C or whatever) if you could get him in the 6th or 7th round. I'm not sure where Gallon is projected, but I can't imagine anyone taking him much higher than that.

I know people think Patriots because of Welker and now Amendola, but he could thrive on any NFL team.  He gets open and has sure hands, that something every team wants.  He can catch short balls and turn them into long gains but he can also get open deep.  Hell, he can even catch a jump ball.  He has a large skill set, and I'm sure some team will jump on it.

Wholeheartedly agree that he can help any NFL team.  Some more traditionalist minds will want to pinhole him into a 'slot' role, but he can succeed anywhere, for any team/scheme.  The man has WR skills flatout.

His top end speed will limit him from being a star at that level, but I'm confident he'll be a useful player and likely a later round steal for whoever is smart enough to not get hung up on height.  It seems an increasing number of teams aren't worrying about it, which is good for him.

He has been caught from behind on big gainers that should have been touchdowns way too much, if he had speed he would have had at least 6 more TD's this year..

Oh no! What if he runs like a 15 second forty because it doesn't pick the cloaking device up?! And he stands there at the finish line like "Why the fuck is the clock still running?" Then he walks through the electronic line again to stop it.

Bummer man.

Football Game Plan's Emory Hunt says that viewers of the East-West Shrine Game should "keep an eye on Jeremy Gallon out of Michigan" whom he compares to Golden Tate.

BTN had an interview with Gallon from the site of the game here - (LINK). The page also lists the Big Ten players on the rosters for each team.

It would be really nice to see Gallon on Sundays beginning this fall. There are several teams that can use a receiver with Gallon's abilities. Best of luck to him!

He doesn't have the straight-line speed or height, but he more than makes up for it with his quickness, route-running, excellent jumping ability, timing, and soft hands.  If Julian Edelman can be a 1,000 yard receiver in the NFL, so can Jeremy Gallon.  Of course it does depend on which team he goes to and the offense they run, QB, etc.

An article (LINK) yesterday said he struggled. What I took from it though is that they were doing limited route concepts, and without the threat of the route tree, Gallon is going to struggle getting separation (because his measurables aren't great in their own right, it's the combination of things that allows him to sell other routes to work the entire tree).

So nice to see that the perception is improving for him.

Wide open's Gallon . . . They left him alone . . . Needs a block . . . Now he's in a foot race . . . Out of bounds at the fifteen and there's eight seconds to go

I watched live, watched replays many (20?) times. Great ending, simply astounding. I am 66 and would be hard pressed to remember a game where M snatched victory from the jaws of defeat like this game. Anyone? But, in watching the replays, as it did live, looked like a block in the back by M at the end of the play. Anyone else notice this? What if this game was on the road? Might have been called. Anyone?

5-7 and 3/8 seems about right. I met him briefly last June when I took the gf to the womens football camp. I'm a generous 5'9" and I was noticeably taller than him. I was also noticably fatter than him...a lot fatter.

He's always going to be at a physical disadvantage, but put him in space and I think Gallon will find a nice niche in the NFL.  Happy to see he's showcasing some of the abilities that let him set records at UM; hopefully a team takes a chance on him.
