Jeremiah Holloman commits to Georgia

Submitted by Magnus on

I didn't see this posted anywhere, but Covington (GA) Newton wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman committed to Georgia yesterday. It was totally unsurprising, but it's somewhat relevant, since he's a former Michigan commit. He was also a teammate of Kurt Taylor (and fellow offeree Jaquan Henderson) before Taylor transferred to Loganville (GA) Grayson.

There were some stargazers concerned about Holloman, but I thought he was a good athlete and had a great frame. He's now a 4-star, the #19 WR, and #131 overall. He decommitted because Michigan wasn't making him enough of a priority, so maybe Michigan made an oopsie. Oh well. We should still be able to pull in some high-quality talent.

be in quotation marks? This is what he claims. I am skeptical when a kid doesn't commit to a school 900 miles away from his home, and then commits to the school next door, because he claims "they didn't make me a priority". Good luck at Georgia, who will probably go through another coaching change before he leaves.

Before his transfer to IMG from St. Mary's, and his ACL tear he was considered one of the top slot guys in the class.  He was a heavy Oregon lean, but with all that is going on with them and his injury; my guess is he's still sniffing around.  Local kid, who dominated at the opening, great friends with Ross and DPJ.  I know we have Grant Perry and Johnson in the wings, however with him being hurt I think we could bring him along slowly like we will Singelton.  By fall 2018 he would be ready, and if he comes back to 2016 form he's a difference maker who is still growing! (Think Desean Jackson)    Ty Whealey was his main recruiter, and made sure to stop by OLSM the week before KJ left for Bradenton.

Michigan is getting crunched on awesome receivers. I think they feel really good about Nico Collins and DPJ, plus they are including Hawkins in this class. So they're in a situation where either Tarik Black or Oliver Martin, two absolutely excellent prospects beyond Holloman's level, might not fit in this class. Getting four of those 5 is a very good receiver year. We could make a long list of Michigan receivers in history who would not have made it in this class.

Last three recruiting classes:  No.8, No. 5, No. 8.

Yet they never seem to perform on the field anywhere near their very high recruiting rankings.

Maybe their recruiting rankings are getting an artificial SEC bump.

Or maybe their coaching consistently underperforms.

Or both.

We also have one of the only coaching staffs in the country who encourages recruits/commits to visit other schools to be sure they make the right decision. It is the ultimate power move in my opinion when you are that confident i what you offer. Especially when these other programs are out there pulling offers when kids want to kick tires elswhere, or even just take a trip somewhere with their friends to catch a game.
