Jennings article on Shemy Schembechler and son Bo

Submitted by roosterbaan on

really nice piece by chantel jennings. with all the hate between michigan and ohio state, it is easy to forget how interwined these two football programs are. the part about hayes visiting the schembechler's after he retired in ann arbor is pure gold.

go blue! beat ohio!

When leading up to The Game, for every Woody / Bo article, there was an article of substance about the actual game.  Really need to get this thing competitive again so it's not just this tedious and frivolous nostalgia leading up to the rivalry every year.

very true--i admit that due to this team's on field performances, i am reduced to finding articles that still drum up the importance of the game from a historical perspective. 2006 was sooo damn long ago. it is hard to imagine ever being so excited for the game again.

That was a pretty nice read actually. Thanks for sharing this.

I rather liked how Chantel kept going between the past and the present to reiterate just how intertwined the names are with this game and its history. I will admit, however, that I sort of felt how Shemy's son did towards the end of the game - indeed, I did go outside and sit for a while despite the freezing temperatures.

It use to be a rivaly game and uofm/osu playes got along outside of the football field, some were good friends.. Now days its pure hate, we hate them as much as they hate us and there is no appreciation for good football teams anymore

They say uofm sucks we come back and say they cheat, everything is dirty nowdays
