think about from the 49ers perspective; they could be encouraging him to take the job so they can PR spin how there never was a rift (neither party involved ever acknowledged anything publicly) and jim was following his heart home.  this will save face with other perspective coaches as the niners explain how they were happy he followed his dream.  /takes tin foil hat off

@MurrComm: Mad rumors: #Harbaugh to be named #Michigan coach, 8yrs @ $49mil. Browns' Moeller to be OC. FL's Durkin as DC, Bills RB coach Wheatley too.

ie - Nothing concrete.  This is all speculation until there's an official announcement, but it should at worst be an entertaining read.

In his defense, he nailed the Rick Carlisle firing from the Pistons before anyone else in the local media.  And he does have contacts in the media and other sporting circles.

Everything I can find indicates that Moss is a poor source.

Would put no weight in this report.

Much more likely that Niners will assess at the end of the season as earlier reported.

Frankly doesn't change my opinion though. I've always thought he was coming. Just think Moss is s hack.

Give it time, fellow Wolverines. Trust in Hackett.

...news seems significant. Whoever is going to be next head coach is likely talking to people he wants to bring on board, and keeping the secret under wraps becomes exponentially more difficult the more people are in on it. I think tonight the chatter reached critical mass and they can't stop it from getting out tomorrow.

Jim knows either decision will be public and is a legacy moment for him at Michigan regardless of choice.  If he hated college football and wanted the NFL only, he would probably already have said so.

But now every passing moment with an ultimate "no" is his enemy as it will appear (and is true) that he is jerking the program around and putting us in an increasingly tenous position; he opens us up to being Herbstreited again.  He does not want this as his legacy.

So I am thinking silence becomes a stronger yes everyday or something might break soon indeed.

I choose to believe he is mentally putting together a staff and waiting for the right NFL moment to break the news but the deal is done.

"Moss admits rage often is his muse.

"When I write the articles, it's because I'm more of a hothead. I write it and then I'm done with it," he said.

Moss, 39 is an insurance appraiser by day. He said he had some journalism classes in college."

Everyone should plan to go to work tomorrow.

To be fair, you sort of had it right the first time - depending on how you "wit" your job, most likely from the lack of sleep due to being on this site all night, quitting ahead of a less desirable fate for one's career could be in order.  Either way, if there is ny meat to what is being thrown about at the moment, hopefully we are indeed on the cusp of having nice things.

the general benefit of the doubt for months in the "it's happening, trust me" dept. Not so much as gospel but I wouldn't discredit them anymore than anyone else. I think I've officially backed off of both of them as of the last few hours. Why? If they're right and we get Harbaugh they look like mega-insiders and their cred goes sky high. If wrong or feeling off about it come crunch time all they have to do is "out a source, blame others for bad info, etc" when THEY took it and more than ran with it. It seems/sounds like this is what we'll hear in about 8 hours. It doesn't seem to be pro-Harbaugh news so they'll blame everyone BUT themselves for distributing bad info. It's a lot like upstart, wannabe recruitniks. If a kid is down to 2-4 schools and they have ZERO inside info they can take the odds by pretending they do. If right - SUPER INSIDER! If wrong - disappear or blame bad sourcing & try again. I think both could be to blame for trying to up their cred stock but they may be hedging or outright clearing their bets now in the face of uncertainty. Basically, it could just be bad reporting and the "news" will be a dude (maybe both guys) outing an obviously bad source they spat as gospel.

but in this case it seems nobody (almost literal as Jim may still be weighing options) knows anything yet everyone is saying something. Therefore, I decided to neither take their "news" as gospel or bunk. I took it with everyone else saying things with no open & known basis. That changed around 10pm last night. I think what we'll hear is a bad source reporting his reports came from a bad source......so he's not a bad source but simply duped. Something like that. People can say whatever but those that know they're full of shit are on the clock and have to back out eventually. They know this going in so now I'm simply not trusting anything that hasn't come from either of the Jim H's. If it's not from coach or our AD, I'm ignoring it.
