Jeff Long Named Chairman Of College Football Playoff

Submitted by MJ14 on

Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, a former 11-year associate athletic director at Michigan, has been named the first chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

Long’s ties to Michigan also extended to current head coach Brady Hoke. The two attended Fairmont East High School in Kettering, Ohio, and were teammates on the football and baseball teams.

The choices certainly could have been worse.

it turned out my Wife's gyno (who was doing the C-Section) was the Cheerleading captain at Fairmount East when they were all in high school. She is still friends with Coach and his wife today.  I know, cool story bro, but it was surreal having a conversation about Michigan football with someone while she had her hands inside my wife.

Would be nice if "Michigan football" and "college football playoff" were somehow related.

Someday.

In the meantime, we'll just have to live with inexplicably losing to Indiana in the Big House this Saturday for the  first time since the Lyndon Johnson administration.

Congratulations to Mr. Long.  Does he have any eligibility left? We have some openings along our offensive line.

I don't think this particular level of DOOM is entirely founded given the present situation, and indeed, the numbers say Indiana is still an entirely winnable game. There are areas of deep concern, and I admit to being frustrated myself, but ceding the Indiana game nearly a week early smells of alarmist thought.

In any case, Jeff Long probably is a good choice to head a group which consists of:

- Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez -

- Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Gould, a former Air Force Academy superintendent

- USC athletic director Pat Haden

- Former NCAA executive vice president Tom Jernstedt

- West Virginia athletic director Oliver Luck

- Former NFL and Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning

- Former Nebraska coach/athletic director Tom Osborne

- Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich

- Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice

- Former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese

- Former USA Today reporter Steve Wieberg

- Former Stanford/Notre Dame/Washington coach Tyrone Willingham

The house I grew up in (and that my parents still live in) was the Longs' old house. I actually remember meeting him during the sale, came across as a nice guy, to a 6 year old. Unsurprisingly his den at the time (later my sister's room) was covered in Michigan stuff.
