Jeff DeFran on WTKA

Sometimes I kind of agree with him, most of the time I just want him to STFU

He generally comes off kind of smug and doesn't seem to have a great grasp on his subject matter. In general, the whole afternoon "Big Show" leaves a lot to be desired (other than when Brian is on). I have never been a John Bacon fan and Mark Copeland is such an unabashed slappy that he can never look at two sides of an issue.

I like John Bacon; he's intelligent, at least. Back in the day Jeff DeFran was great on WJR. But I have not really enjoyed his stints with WTKA, either in the morning or the evening. He really seems like he'd rather *not* be on the radio, but he's somehow stuck there.
Here's some love from oldblue back in December: http://mgoblog.com/content/jeff-defran-back-wtka

He does seem like he would rather not be there. I'm not a fan.

Bacon is actually starting to grow on me. When he was on a lot this spring / early summer, his interviews would kill me because they were 85% John Bacon, 15% whoever he was "interviewing." I kind of got the impression that John U. Bacon loves him some John U. Bacon. Lately it's been better.

Sam and Ira in the morning can be a little 'maize and blue' colored glasses, if you know what I mean, but DeFran is just the opposite. One of his regular callers rubs me the wrong way, too.
Today DeFran was insisting that there was plenty of talent left for RichRod, something which, if not disproven, has been certainly called into question thanks to the now well known "Decimated Defense" posts.
He also was claiming that RichRod "ran out of town" Mallet and Boren; and IIRC Mallet was going to bail anyway regardless of the coaching change, at least that's what I remember reading on this site.
Bacon and Jamie Morris - I liked listening to them until last season. I don't think they handled the criticism of the program well at all.

I think there's some balance to the station, with the above mentioned maize colored glasses in the morning, Copey, Brian (And Bacon and Morris, if they count), and some of the other side with DeFran and that guy on Tuesday (who is just generally kinda bad, no matter his view). DeFran seems to have a mix of long time callers who can be slappy's in either direction. He's banned that one ultra critical caller (forget his name) who was always "sick and tired" of everything. If the callers now get you bent out of shape, this guy would have driven you to froth at the mouth. Major asshole. But equal opportunity, because to him Lloyd sucked too.
I think a lot of DeFran's view are attributed to the guys he is friends with and come in and speak, who are often not Michigan through and through, and don't mind throwing barbs, and haven't done their homework. That's my main problem with Jeff is that he lets them say stuff that isn't true, or is backed up by nothing, and he doesn't challenge them on it. (Page today for example, or "El Hombre"....who's an M grad, but one that's been finding stuff to bitch about M Football forever...like how in the '97 Sporting News college football preview he wrote a column on how M Football was dead...oops. That's the kind of credibility we're talking about).

The "sick and tired" guy is Greg from Saginaw.

I compare it to listening to someone that makes up his mind on an issue and then completely makes up stats to support his view. Everyone knows someone like this.

Defran isn't half the dumbass that Jeff Radford is. He takes the cake for pure unadulterated stupidity. Just spewing off nonsense and conjecture like it's going out of style.
