Jeff Defran bashing RR and Victors Rally on WTKA

Submitted by bringthewood on
Did anyone else hear Jeff Defran's tired spiel bashing Rich Rod, The Victors Rally etc last night on WTKA? His uninformed rant about Rogriguez and the Victors Rally last night was the same old tired story. It made me think of the Animal House - Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life Jeff. It's not that he is stupid but also lazy. If he had done any research on the hand that was dealt Rich Rod - which people like Brian Cook and other Mgobloggers has provided many times, he would be more credible but to avoid all facts and start his old lame bashing is just plain stupid. Brian mentioned a new full time afternoon host so I assume it was Jeff getting his digs in before he's gone. I don't mind if there are differing opinions but I expect Ann Arbor radio hosts to be intelligent and informed - not just unprepared hacks (aka Mike Valenti and Drew Sharp).

That Michigan should have never changed that change is bad (I guess he wanted an assistant to take over from Lloyd), that RR is failing horribly with a stocked program, that the Victor's Rally is unneeded and a money grab for the sponsor "we don't need any rally", that Michigan has never been investigated by the NCAA and RR is the cause...

Not to be a dick but to help keep the board clean, this discussion is already rolling (with links from WTKA) in the "The Victors Rally - Students read and pass along" thread... hope this helps

I'm not in Michigan and sadly only know the local media who criticize the Wolverines. Their semi-national fame implies that they are better off criticizing Michigan, so just ignore them.

I haven't listened to him since about 2003 when he had the morning show, but he annoyed the hell out of me even then. I mostly remember him for two things: (i) he would begin each morning by administering Lloyd a ritualistic audio bj, and (ii) his persistent unwillingness to tolerate even the slightest criticism of John Navarre.

I heard his childish rant the other day too. I've grown very tired of even hearing the sound of his voice. I hope that he's gone when this change happens.

Basically stated that there wasn't much for them to roll in terms of highlights from the last two years and wondering why Rick Leach was involved b/c he didn't seem to be a RR supporter. Defran admits he is not a RR supporter, blah blah blah. You are a small radio station in ANN ARBOR MICHIGAN home of the Michigan Wolverines. You should not be bashing something like this. I think it is a good idea. It keeps football in the forefront of our minds and raises hype for the program in the community. I think things like this help keep us going in these dire times. The players making appearances, giving autographs. If this happened when I was a kid and I went I would remember it to this day.

I felt it was a misuse of his position; he seems to think that Jeff Defran the fan is who should be doing the show, not a representative of the show and the radio station. WTKA lauds itself as the 'unofficial voice' of Michigan football, and he by extension should be that voice. I respect his opinion of the program -everyone is entitled to one- but he should tone down the rhetoric and not make himself the focal point of the anti-Coach Rodriguez viewpoint. He could do that at any number of radio stations, and it sounds like he might get his opportunity.

I really don't listen to Defran anymore. I can't take it. He is entitled to voice his opinion but he just ignores any facts which is really irritating. He just chooses not to hear any of the arguments supporting RR and continues on his mindless bashing. I was listening a while back and he was complaining about people wanting him (Defran) fired etc. and ragging on him about his viewpoint on RR however in the same breath he was saying how RR was a terrible hire and should be let go. He is a prick thats all I can say.

Let everyone pile on with their attacks and their baseless anti-Rodriguez rhetoric because it doesn't mean anything anymore. I'm not tired of anyone in particular who says these things, I'm tired of the practice as a whole. It's just the same worn-out commentary about how the spread doesn't work in the Big Ten, and RR is disgracing the program by swearing and losing with a stacked program and talking with an accent, and how Michigan didn't need to change anything in the first place. It's all just bullshit, just hollow words that have become nothing more than background noise over the past 2 years, at least to me.

I think the guy is entitled to his opinion. Wrong as it may be it's still his right to voice it. Don't like it, don't listen.
