Jed Donahue Picks UM over PSU 52-24

Submitted by GBOD79 on

Just thought this was interesting. Jed Donahue, "the voice of Penn State football on Pennsylavania Sports Network," has picked Michigan to win 52-24.

The article is posted on Rivals. Good insight and analysis from a guy who know PSU football.

PSU defense has not been playing up to par to the usual PSU's standard.  Michigan offense should be able to move the ball on them.  PSU offense is terrible but they may get their points against an equally terrible Michigan defense.

Sounds about right. I think it could get out of hand pretty quick if our defense can make some stops early on and our offense scores consistently. As long as we stay away from turnovers and stupid penalties, we should have no problem.

If I had a dollar for every confident assertion of that opinion over the last 2+ years that was followed by a loss, I could take my wife, my daughter, her fiance, and my dog to the Chop House for the whole schmeer including brandy and cigars afterwards. My dog loves a good Cuban to chew on.

26-23 PSU, featuring a less-than 100% Denard, MM, and Molk.

and that cigar will be nice when michigan rolls a terrible penn state football team this week. paterno wont make 400 wins this year either. this team barely beat temple and if it werent for bernard pierces injury temple would have won. i have won 500 dollar this year betting on penn state. there a sure thing with the spread. lol i never bet on michigan ever because i pick woth my heart but this game is tempting.

If it's 3 TDs and a safety, that's betting either our D gets a safety, or some wacky Leon Lett shit happens.

If it's 3 TDs, a FG and a missed PAT, although probably the most plausible, still means we hit a FG at night on natural grass.

If it's 2 TDs and 3 FGs . . . that's just bananas.

The Pennsylvania State University holding our offense to less than 28 points doesn't seem very likely to me, however, MSU going 8-0 didn't seem that likely to me either at the beginning of season.

I agree with you.  WTF have these people been watching all year?  Michigan got pushed to the limits by UMass....AT HOME.  Notre Dame and Indiana both took Michigan to the wire.

I think that Michigan will win this game because the disparity between the two offenses (in Michigan's favor) is greater than the diparity between two defenses.  However, to say "no problem" is just an indication that you haven't been paying attention.

And if you read my post fully, you will see that I said that if we stay away from turnovers and stupid penalties we should have no problem. Not saying that we won't have a problem. I have been watching, every game, every snap live. I know what has happened all season long, but you have to look at PSU also. They are horrible, plain and simple. I don't see this game as close as you do, but I also don't see it as blown out as Jed does either.

I feel pretty comfortable that the opposing team's QB isn't capable of picking the defense apart. 52 points? Come on. That guy must be King Homer of Homerica.

Well there is really no reason to believe our defense can slow down any quarterback/offense until we actually do it.

However, I think the combination of Penn State potentially starting a walk-on quaterback plus their injuries in the OL make this the best chance our defense has of stopping an offense.

UConn is actually a pretty good comparison. Even with Bolden, PSU has a weak passing attack and with McGloin it's probably worse than UConn's with Frazer. Royster hasn't played as well as Todman has, and PSU's line is no better than UConn's. Both have mediocre defenses whose strength is the DTs.

We won't hang 50 on them unless they turn it over a lot, but I expect something like 31-10 or 38-10.

Here's the thing...

The three headed anti-monster of Bolden, McGloin, and Newsome is probably most equivalent to Crist, Montana, and that other guy whose name escapes me at the moment. Imagine how good the D would've looked if Crist hadn't played at all.

The only similar (talent-wise) to the McGloin/Newsome combo would be a slightly better version of Bowling Green's 2nd string QB.

Penn State's defense is basically a walking M.A.S.H. unit.

I'm worried about the crazy shit that tends to happen during night games in Happy Valley. Penn State's team doesn't scare me at all.

Nope - you're not the only one.  I believe that whoever starts for PSU at QB Saturday night is going to put up the best numbers from a PSU QB all season.  I pray I'm wrong and we do roll them, but I just can't see this defense stopping anyone as long as the opposing QB has 2 arms and 2 legs.

is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.  Make a few stops against a poor PSU offense, play a little more disciplined and execute on offense and we could roll PSU early and often.

I'm not convinced that we can stop PSU's offense that well, especially since we haven't really seen McGloin play. Similarly, I'm not convinced that we will torch PSU's defense that is usually pretty stout. I'm thinking a closer game, 28-20, Michigan.

That douche from the Big Ten press pass said Royster is gonna return to form and run all over our team on saturday as PSU wins..  The other 2 commentators said Denard is gonna put up Denard like numbers and we go bowl eligible, bringing a lot of confidence into the ILL game

This is so lopsided of a prediction, it must be an attempt to motivate PSU.  You just don't pick your team to lose at home by four TDs.

Any news on the weather this weekend in Happy Valley?

If things are clear & dry, I think we might get fifty points.
