We still have an NCAA Tourney caliber team next year. And Beilein teams often exceed expectations. Let's just be glad we got Wagner. We very easily could have gotten nobody.

They make a living off those people who feel it's so necessary to have "insider access" that they're willing to pay for it on a monthly basis.

If all those paying customers woke up one morning and said to themselves, "fuck it, I'm using my money on something else" and canceled their subscriptions to Rivals or 247 or Scout, the recruiting-industrial complex would shrink dramatically.

Oh well. That's life. I'd rather he commit to Cal where he can get a top-notch education over Kentucky where he gets a one year degree for doing nothing. If he was serious about academics, he didn't make a wrong choice between us and Cal.

Best of luck, Jaylen.

I'd love to hear the OSU trash make fun of Michigan for not being able to close on Jaylen. You know, the same OSU trash that had a team full of 5 stars that still lost to a Michigan team full of freshmen and walk-ons.

Seems like he was actually telling people different things in the last 48 hours. Insiders were definitely making runs on Michigan and Kentucky based on something it seemed.

Wouldn't shock me to see him end up signing with someone other than Cal

Not surprised Michigan didn't land him. A little surprised he went to Cal. As usual Michigan ended up empty handed.

We better get Gary. It seems like we've dealt with this all too much the last 5 months with Chris clark van Jefferson Robert Washington and now brown. We'll be good regardless but I want to get over the hump and win a natty in something.

While I understand your frustration, this is the nature of the beast. When you go after the best recruits, you're going to come up empty more often than not. Better days are ahead I believe. IMHO Michigan has 2 of the best coaches in football and basketball. Rest easy, the future is bright.

I understand but it's a little frustrating to only have three 4 star football players commit to us in the last 5 months while ohio state has gotten about triple that and msu and osu have gotten much better basketball classes too. I think we'll still be great but a bonified stud like brown could have vaulted us to a possible nc.

Well our football program isn't what it used to be... and basketball is oddly staying afloat with meh talent outta high school that get uber-developed in college.

I wish we could get a MiccyD's All-American more often though. Beilein could probably make superman out of one of those types of kids. Sigh...

Our football program not being what it used to be didn't stop us from having two top 10 classes in the last 4 years. Notre Dame still recruits well and hasn't been good since the early 90s. Tennessee has had top 5 classes in the few years and they haven't been good for way longer than us. I don't think necessarily needs 5 stars to win games but it sure would be nice to start reeling them in when Urban gets a top 5 class every year and brings in 27 people every class. With basketball, I recognize that JB isn't going to land 4 5 stars every class but it would be good to start getting the Mitch McGary players again to complement our under the radar finds like Dawkins and Levert.

I don't think this board's comments are that far off of that one.  The decision is a little strange.  Just like Rabb's (their other 5* in this class).  Cal doesn't recruit well.  Cuonzo Martin doesn't have a good track record.  These kids may care about academics, but there is very limited value in choosing the academics of Cal over UM or even UK for these kids.

It's Berkeley... That's fine, but, IMHO, it's not worth potentially sacrificing your career (Pro basketball) for.  I was pointing out that the UK board wasn't that much different than this one.  I think you could make a case for players not in JB's position (top-5 recruits) for choosing the better school academically.  I don't think it makes much sense in this case because there are places with less compromise on the BBall side of things.
