Don't hold your breath. Jim Schwartz is a loose cannon and had several meltdowns after and during games (even after wins he was embarrassingly demonstrative). That exchange had a lot more to do with him than Harbaugh.

Pete Carroll's "What's your deal?" was pretty overblown. It was a response to the 2-point conversion attempt (which was awesome). It's not like he freaked out.

I know we pick stuff apart, but Dantonio is right to say they have been winning, and using that as a recruiting tool. He can jab, and say we are selling "hope", but that's really all he can say to bash us, and I don't really care. Michigan still has the tradition, the history, and ultimately the past few years will look like a big hiccup. Jay saying what he did just clarifies his/this staff's point...it isn't about "hope". So Dantonio says what he does, and Jay is making it clear what his point is (hard work, not hope)

Until Jim Harbaugh and his staff lead Michigan to a victory over Michigan State on the field, "hope" is exactly what they're selling.

Everything up to that point is just talk.

Dantonio is going to say that because he's won recently.

That said, Dantonio has to sleep rather uneasily with the knowledtge that in just a few short months Jim Harbaugh will meet him at midfield to ask him "what's your deal"? following a Michigan victory.

When Dantonio can't sell hope and can't sell results what will be left, anyway? Sofas?

lol Dantonio is such a prick. There's literally no coach that's as big of a db as he is. He can see the hope we're selling on October 17th for himself. Can't wait!

MSU has achieved about half of what Florida State, Ohio State, Alabama, or Auburn have in the last 5 years. Harbaugh seems to be a guy who wants to be the best of the best. If he wins the big ten title he won't be happy that he didn't win the national title. He doesn't want to compete for titles, he better damn win them. He's insane and demands perfection which we haven't had in a long time.

Maybe it's me, but I think that the younger staff members shouldn't even dignify Dantonio's comments with a response on Twitter.  The text-speak makes it even worse.

But hey, get off my lawn!

According to Sam Webb, there is some serious BS negative recruiting going on in the metro Detroit area and people are buying it.   Plus we all know the local media will run a BS narrative regarding that as well.

Our guys have to speak up because people are buying the bullshit that is being fed into their ears.

Dantonio is that 13-year-old kid that everyone hates. He always feels the need to make something out of nothing in order to make himself look like a maverick hardass. For example, the Bolden incident. Honestly, who gives a damn that someone planted a tent stake on their own sideline? He makes it seem as though Michigan was conceived in the fires of Mordor, and that we are the source of unmatched disrespect. I've always hated the prick and can't wait until 10/17 when we kick their ass. And yes, I grew up in EL's backyard, am an U of M alumnus, hate MSU with a burning passion, and maybe have had a few too many this evening. Sorry I'm not sorry. Go Blue.

Its funny as well as the past few years, there has been multiple bush league hits away from the play to purposely injure people on our team.  But hey, you won't see the media every cover that.  That all goes ignored.

May 9th, 2015 at 2:48 AM ^

Despite being 11-2...no one nationally gives 2 shits about MSU.  Why?  Because everyone with a brain knows that once Michigan gets back to being Michigan again... their little run is over and they will suck once again.

JOHNNAVARREISMYHERO

May 9th, 2015 at 2:57 AM ^

Not to mention, they just sat back and reaped the rewards of an all at assault from Day 1 on RR while their program which had numerous off the field incidents went which largely ignored.    They were busy travelling to Florida to get information to trash Demar Dorsey.   Never saw the same thing done to that POS recruit they had that went to jail multiple times.

If from Day 1 the media called their coach an idiot and attacked his reputation literally every single day, neagtive results would have followed.

This is the same guy that can ridicule at will because the local media is full of morons who never call it out.

and Dantonio has a 2-4 record against Ohio State. If you say that you're ok with being MSU, you're essentially saying it's fine to lose to our arch rival. I don't want to be the big ten's 2nd best team. I want to be the conference's best team. Is that too much to ask?

Jack Hammer

Harbaugh goes after the biggest bully and takes him down. I think the fact that Jim goes after OSU and Jay goes after MSU says a lot about Jim's perception that MSU is a non-factor in his rise. Everything Harbaugh does is calculated. That includes allowing Jay to respond to MSU rather than him. Not worth his time. Bigger targets to worry about.

& let results speak. If such rampant negative recruiting is working it tells you about the state of OUR program. Dantionio led state is basically a mini-osu. He'd happily not go to a bowl as long as he beat us. We need to be quiet, talk mad shii behind the scenes & stop feeding his self-created shtick. It doesn't help that the immediate & assumed recruiting bumb didn't happen. If a trio of 5* kids flocked to us the neg recruiting wouldn't be working as well. No need to speak. It didn't happen & I think it's safe to say that it COULD be because this new regime isn't for everyone. Jim can be intense to the point of confusingly scary lol. He comes across as an old school "I'm not your friend, I'm your coach" type guy. He can be very friendly but he's not an evenly tempered guy. He can be multiple people in the same conversation. Hoke did so well at this point b/c he was a teddy bear. Kids visited here & it attracted the those that want a super chill environment (I hate to say it but a lot of kids that aren't "type-A" personalities, guys that are here to win by any means necessary). Some very talented but poorly coached & not too concerned with winning. I don't know how else to say it.....the new HC won't be for everyone & he's not recruiting at a California school. We'll be built very similar to the way Dantonio built up msu. So, why say anything? We have nothing to brag about in recent field history. Look for tough kids that want to be pushed by a tough coach & stfu. Lets talk when we're MICHIGAN again. Don't allow ANY school to neg recruit us, make it a waste of another school's time like it used to be. JMHO....

May 9th, 2015 at 3:28 AM ^

Eh. I'd rather our coaches defend themselves after the last two staffs let Dantonio walk all over them. I'm ready for no more apologizing. I love Harbaugh publicly calling out the bullshit where he sees it whether its Mike Weber or something else compared to Hoke's laid back polite not going to ruffle the feathers attitude. If nothing else, it lights a fire and builds an attitude among the players that the coach has our back and Michigan isn't going to be pushed around anywhere anytime.

Danwillhor

May 9th, 2015 at 4:06 PM ^

I'd rather quietly instill a fiery hatred then be that guy yelling across the room. I never fear the guy that yaps. That's just me. The more they talk the less I fear them. Those quiet dudes? Haha. When one guy yaps & the other just stares his ass down with that look? I know where I'm putting my money. Point being that is rather our staff get THIS TEAM in line & then worry about md's B.S. Plus, I agree on a recruiting level that you can put dirt out on the street but if another coach is talking crap, let them talk. Explain to the kid that he's taking b/c he's scared, etc. Fight analogy. Whatever. I just think it's time for Michigan to stfu & win. I don't think trash talk wins games. In tried of hearing about what we'll do. Time to do it. Let md do exactly what he built msu upon: get cocky, talk shii. Let him talk & quietly build your army. Again, JMHO

Lets just beat them on the fuckinig field.

I can see Twitter getting young Harbaugh in trouble at some point.

We didnt need to respond to this BS by Dantonio because yea they beat us for quite sometimes now and yea they have been sucessful. Jay did responed but I think he shouldnt because we should win a game or two against MSU before we do any talk. Also Dantonio is a prick but lets see how mad he will react to the midfield handshake and plus Harbaugh wouldnt apologize to anybody at all. But lets win on Oct 17 to shut them up.

I hate this mentality and too many UM fans have it. Throw out the all time records and puff out your chest. We have the advantage all time against Ohio St too. How's that working out for us? They've both kicked our ass recently and are better programs right now. Period. Who cares what happened in 1948?

If anyone can have that attitude it's Michigan. Fans don't settle for mediocrity in the present, BECAUSE OF that glorious past. The bar is set high here for a reason.

Despite OSUs and MSUs little winning streak, we are still kicking their asses on the record books. No one is arguing that the past is more important the present, but let's be clear, our past is far better than Sparty's, and they need to be reminded of it on occasion.

The 5* recruits don't care what happened years ago when they were children or before they were born. It's like no one cares that England used to rule an empire that the sun didn't set on except for guys who hang out in men's clubs and reminisce about the Empire. Or people who bask in the fact that Kodak was once a Dow Industrials component.

Seemed like a pretty harmless comment from Dantonio, especially compared to some others in the past. But I don't mind Jay hitting back despite not having coached against him yet, since that didn't stop Dantonio and Narduzzi from running their mouths after Appalachian State.
