It's not necessarily a dig against UM, just a general comment. He admits he had to do the same thing when he took over MSU. I don't think UM fans need to be in a tizzy over this. That being said, I have no problem with Jay's message in his response. I just don't think he needed to respond. And I do hate Twitter speak and text speak. (B gr8) ugh!!

It would so set Dantonio off. The guy is the epitome of envy and spite. This North Dakotan Wolverine fan would call him a bitch to his face if given the chance. To hell with all you who cant handle a fellow fan doing that! Have a great weekend!

I agree completely. What he's saying is true. That's the reality, whether U-M fans like it or not.

Frankly, I don't understand the Dantonio hate. Maybe most people around here are too young too know/remember Bo when he was coaching in Ann Arbor. He wasn't a warm and fuzzy pussycat ... kinda churlish.

MSU has had great success under Dantonio and Izzo. Good for them. Give credit and respect where it's due. We just need to be as good or better.

i'd prefer to see great success throughout all of the B1G. Makes our successes sweeter.

didn't read the article.  No one on the michigan side was needling anybody, Jaybaugh reacted to dantonio stating that MSU is selling results and others (michigan) are selling hope.   Jaybaugh'sstatement was to the effect that Michigan is recruiting hard workers to the program.

Dantonio is selling mediocrity. All they care about in East Lansing is regular season wins. Edit: They are also happy with making it to final fours in basketball but getting blown out in them.

selling mediocrity, what have we been selling the last half decade?  The answer in this relative comparison is: flaming garbage.  I hate Dantonio, but I would prefer to do the talking after a win or two over MSU.

Michigan's last eight years are an aberration.  Sparty's last seven years are a aberration.  And Michigan is still 68-34-5 against Sparty.  Dantonio would not have been able to build his program if Michigan didn't self-destruct.  I am willing to bet the next seven years are a lot different.  I can easily see Michigan going 5-2 against Sparty in that timeframe.

and I'm a huge Michigan fan, but what ground are we standing on here?  You saying that the next seven years are going to be different is exactly what Dantonio means when he says Michigan is selling hope.  I'm not disagreeing that the next few years could see UM play to a +.500 record against MSU, but basing that prediction on recent results isn't reasonable.  Dantonio has something good going at MSU and it's going to take a good campaign to derail that.  I hate Dantonio, but respect where it's due, he's done a good job.  Next seven years will be interesting.  That being said, Fuck Staee.

Dantonio is trolling us in the media. Jay's message is that's BS mark. We are not about hoping to be good we are about working hard to get there. Harbaughs results speak for themselve. He will also be the 1st to admit the past is the past and you need to work now. Good for you Jay. The recruits pay attention to this form of media.

What "results?" Harbaugh hasn't even coached fall practices at Michigan yet, let alone a single game. His past record doesn't guarantee anything in Ann Arbor.

Mark Dantonio is a smug, sanctimonious hypocrite whose bilious hatred for Michigan oozes from every dickish pore. He's been fortunate to face a Michigan program in steep decline and has been blessed with very favorable schedules, but those factors alone don't explain why he's done as well as he has, especially against us. He hasn't won games because he's a dick—he's won games because he's good at doing the things that head football coaches have to do. He assembled a competent staff, recruited players who fit what he wants to do, "coached them up," did a good job of in-game strategy and coaching, and won a lot of games over the past four seasons as a result.

I believe that Harbaugh will be a success here because he's also good at the things head coaches have to do, but the tweets and motivational sayings and smack talk of a wet-behind-the-ears assistant in his first position coaching gig whose own playing career didn't go past high school won't have a fucking thing to do with it.

I hope we're long past cheap high-school histrionics like planting a tent stake. If you have to do that to motivate your teammates to play your instate rival, you've already lost. I think JH knows that.

C'mon...8 years is not an abberation.  Especially when its the most recent 8 years.  When you've sucked for the last 8 years, then you're just not very good.  You can turn it around, but until then its not an abberation, its just the way it is.

Well if we were in their shoes I would certainly be happier with 10 win seasons than the shit we have done since 08' but I wouldn't be happy with a losing record to Ohio State and only 2 big ten titles in 8 seasons. Harbaugh certainly has his work out as there's a long way to get to MSU's level and then an equally long way to Ohio State after that.

JOHNNAVARREISMYHERO

They avoided Ohio State in 2009 and would have went 5-7.

They avoided Ohio State again in 2010.   Then got curbstomped by 40+ points against the worst Alabama team since Saban's first season.

Tressel's average margin of victory over them was 20+ points.   Avoided  two blowout losses.

They haven't played at Ohio State since 2011.  Got two home games in a row versus both their rivals in the past few years.

Got humuliated at home last year in a game against Ohio State in which their coach guranteed a win.

Schedules like 2013 and 2014 will never happen again.

With all this so called success, they still play only one BCS conference team in the non-conference.

It hasn't hurt that Michigan has been at its worst in over 50 years. Makes you wonder what Dantonio's legendary record would be against Michigan had he coached in any other era.

The decline started when UM lost to OSU in 2001. The last decade and a half have largely been very rough times.

That having been said, I think JH and his staff can right the ship. It won't be easy, but they've got the right idea: do it with hard work. They're also right about their obsession with competition. Too many times we've seen highly rated recruits come in and be hailed as saviors, only to fall flat. Competition prevents that.

Let's stay humble, work hard (or root hard as fans) and support the team.

That is very biased. It was not a terrible call.

Michigan won the turnover battle 3-0 that day. If you've ever seen turnover statistics, you'll know it's quite hard to do that and still lose. We got our breaks and didn't capitalize.

We also had three 10 win seasons in that span, not four. I agree with the poster you are replying to. Things were obviously better before 2008, but the mojo really got sucked out in 2001 when we started to lose to Ohio State and drop our bowl game virtually every season.

MSU's success correlates to Michigan's recent mediocrity.   If Michigan were the Michigan we had been accustomed to prior to 2008, I think MSU might very well be the same MSU we had been accustomed to prior to 2008 as well.  The one season Michigan beat MSU (2012) since 2007, Michigan State goes 7-6. To put MSU back in its place, Michigan has to win that game.

Honestly if you really look at things, the only good season they have had was also the year they played the weakest Big Ten schedule in history.

Lost by 42 to Alabama during Alabama's bad season.   Blown out in 2011, by a mediocre 0-2 Notre Dame team, blown out again by Nebraska.    This past year, got numerous fortunate breaks, teams dropping interceptions, or tipping interceptions, Nebraska has a wide open receiver drop a TD with under 20 seconds to go, Purdue has an interception in the endzone that is magically tipped right into their hands - should have had 4 losses.  And that was with another easy schedule.

It's not even a history lesson. It's a blatantly false statement.

MSU has a winning percentage of .791 over the past five seasons. In the first half of the 1990s (Moeller), we were .750. Second half of the '90s (Carr) we were .790.

Just stop with the history lessons.  Going back to levels of success in the 90s is irrelevant in today's college football world.  What consistuted a successful season in the 80s and 90s is a lot different than the recent and current BCS and CFP era.  Its like talking about how you had the dopest rotary phone in the world to some kid talking on a new smart phone.  Cool history story old man.

How is Dantonio being a dick? He's sick of talking about Michigan and OSU. Michigan IS selling hope, because recruits aren't buying success that happened when they were in first grade.

Look at how other coaches like Saban respond to questions about Harbaugh. If you don't like the question you lie like Harbaugh saying he's rooting for Ohio State when asked about the NCG. Otherwise you sound like you have a stick up your ass and are bitter which is essentially every Dantonio interview about Michigan.
