because I graduated from Michigan and worked at a firm that only hires from top schools (no OSU/ Bama grads) and then got hired in my current position because of Michigan and my prior firm.

Sort of convoluted.

But seriously, for you older people out there, there used to be a large investment bank, DLJ (now part of CSFB) that loved hiring Michigan grads because we were thought to be far more hungry than Ivy league grads.

As a 3L (past the hiring phase for those familiar with legal hiring), I went into one of the worst legal job markets in history with less than mediocre grades. I ended up at a very good firm and was explicitly told after being hired that I was chosen because I went to Michigan Law. Other candidates, and there were tons of them, had much better grades, but I went to the better school and they hired me based on that (and the fact that I didn't weird them out during the interview process).

Go Blue!

FWIW, in some meaningful way I owe most of my post-law school career (in tech/startup stuff) to having gone to Michigan. A professor at Michigan Law introduced me to one of her old students before I came out to Colorado and he just happens to be a partner at a venture capital firm in town. There are so many Michigan folks out in Colorado that it's a massive help professionally.

@JayHarbaugh I have been told by multiple leaders in my field that they took time to talk to me rite out of school bc of the Michigan name.

@JayHarbaugh wife works at hospital, both got our degrees from and all 3 daughters were born at hospital. Pretty much our life!

@JayHarbaugh I signed with Steve Ross and the Miami Dolphins as UDFA in 2013. He personally called me on draft day. Michigan connection.

^ I love that Kovacs put his story on here as well.

"took time to talk to me rite out of school"

Really, Jay? 'rite' and 'school' only three words away from each other?

Look, I realize that a 140 character format can be restrictive. But this was only 126 characters! You had room! FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, PLEASE USE CORRECT GRAMMAR WHEN ACTIVELY REPRESENTING THE INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION WE LOVE! Why is this so, so hard?

I realize I'm more up on my grammar high horse than most, but seriously, this kind of thing is embarrasing to Jay, the University, the idea that football players have brains as well as athletic talent... I'm on board with your message, Jay, I really am, but could you please take an extra 5 seconds to reflect before you attack twitter with enthusiasm unknown to mankind?

Um....that wasn't Jay's post. It was another Twitter user.

Also, Twitter is NOT the place to be a stick-in-the-mud when it comes to grammar. Yes, they could have expanded "rite" to "right", but who cares? They probably forgot to edit it after reducing the character count. I've done that before.

If a recruit sees that Tweet and THAT's what sticks out to them, then they missed the point.

Apparently, Goldman Sachs had a major hardon for M grads in the mid 90's. Was lucky enough to score an early interview and position as a Nasdaq market maker with them right after graduation. Then, in 1999, was recruited by SAC capital to join their firm. Took the job and found out there were 7 other M alums on that trading desk.
