Jason Whitlock thinks Harbaugh is massively overrated

The reason: He's hasn't beaten a loaded OSU and won a national championship in two years, that's why!!

I mean, forget the fact that Harbaugh was one 4th down call away from going to the Big Ten championship and the college football playoff, he's 0-2 against Urban Meyer so CLEARLY he's not worth the bucketloads of cash we're paying him.

Yeah ok gif.

WHY OH WHY DID CUTCLIFFE TURN US DOWN?!? NOW WE'RE STUCK WITH THIS FAILURE!!

(If you ask me Whitlock is still butthurt over Brady Hoke failing after years of talking him up.)

When Whitlock worked for the Ann Arbor news, I watched him eat what looked like a half of the menu in one sitting at CUBS AC.  He "held court" while shoving food into his face and came off as having one of the most inflated egos I have ever seen.

I have never taken him seriously since.  He is a massive, arrogant, pompous glutton who will say anything to get attention.  I guess it has worked for him.  But I just think about his girth and his unjustified arrogance whenever I hear his name.

Is this the same Jason Whitlock who wrote a piece saying Michigan had hit a home run with the Brady Hoke hire, getting the best possible coach for Michigan?

Uh huh, circular file, his entire "massive body" of work...

That is a slob of a man who could'nt get laid in a real real nasty whorehouse. Of course he is going to hate. Saban and Meyer will never coach in the pinnicle of football which is the super bowl. They will never win a nfc championship not once but twice. The nfl has more parody and is harder to win one game let alone go to the super bowl. Harbaugh is a better football coach than anyone at the college level. Recruiting is paramount and somewhat evil in how much slimy shit that goes on. If this slob actually believes what he is saying well he is just plain fat dumb and ignorant. AT least cowherd agress with me that Michigan will be favored when the Penn State game comes around, but I said they will be favored in every game this year. If I am wrong it will be proven, but I feel it in my heart and believe Michigan will become the team to beat in college football and man will people really hate then. Fan for 54 years and more excited for future Michigan teams because they have the best coach and support I have ever seen. This is the most speed I have ever seen on a Michigan team and since I am a defense guy......what can I say but you gotta love Don Brown. Michigan will always field a top three defense and I really believe that. Our defense will be better this year than last year, so go ahead and sing the praises of Penn State and Osu if you want.

I think that's pretty much it.  Just as he wouldn't acknowledge that the football program was a mess when Harbaugh showed up, his love affair with Brady Hoke goes unabated.

Speaking of which, he practiced a bit of projection when he accused Cowherd and Lewis of crowning Harbaugh when that's exactly what he did vis a vis Hoke back in 2011.

Only because I can't stand Coherd, yet I was glad he had Harbaugh's back. It just felt weird. Probably my favorite exchange was where they were talking about how the Woverines have to beat fOSU....they have to beat MSU....and Coherd was like 'oh, they're going to beat MSU'. Can I just say I can't wait till we feel that way about the buckeyes, like we did in the 80s and 90s?!

What a f-ing tool Whitlock is in that video. Reminds me of arguing with someone who knows little about the subject and you've been working in the field for 30 years. Yet they still have a know-it-all attitude.

Then right before the end he implies Harbaugh can't stay anywhere because he wears out his welcome. A) not true except for with the doofuses in SF and 2) not even a sign of it in A^2. He has so much good will piled up in our emotional/(logical) bank accounts that he can survive an incredibly improbable unsuccessful season or three.

I am writing what I've been thinking since the end of last season and there is no need to shoot the messenger.

Last season seemed to be the best chance of winning big.  We sent a record number of player to the NFL.  However, we didn't win big.  We didn't win anything.  Now we enter into a "rebuilding" year in year three.  What are the chances we win the conference this year after losing SO much talent?  Will we beat OSU?  Can we beat PSU? The B1G is more competetive than it has been in years.  Chances are we don't win the Big Ten this year.

That leaves next year which is year four in the Harbaugh era.  If we don't win the conference next year that will make four years of doing nothing.  No national championships.  No conference championships.  Not even a division championship.

The year after that?  Five years?  How long would it take of not winning before people turned on Harbaugh?  How long of a leash would the school give him?

Someone talk me off the ledge.  What is a realistic expectation of success as of today?  How long do you think it will take?  A new O-lone coach will help.  What other changes that we made will accelerate of chance of success?

If Harbaugh keeps winning 10 games a year, no one is going to "turn" on him. Why? Because who else could do a better job? Also weird shit happens in football. Do you think MSU deserved to be the CFP year before last? Do you think OSU deserved to be in last season? Were they the best teams from the B1G? No, they got some bounces and calls. Also sucks that when we had all that talent MSU and OSU were on the road. Let's just hope the stars align soon. We don't need to be the absolute best in the B1G. Just need to be competitive and to get some bounces to go our way once in awhile - maye some luck is coming our way soon because Lord knows we haven't had a lot of it lately.

That being a road game was a lot better than having Wisconsin or PSU on the road, like we have this year.

The MSU game was marquee for an anomolous five or so year stretch while they were getting lucky/roiding it up/benefiting from our bad hires and while PSU was down but those tables have turned, possibly for a long time.  Which is good for our schedule balance.

I know it was looking like a blowout for awhile, but it ended up being a 9 point game. I think the offense only scored 3 points in the second half iirc. That was our best team in a decade vs their worst team in a decade. It's always going to be a tough game while Dantonio is their in my opinion.

1-The goal of talking-head shows is to make money. They do it by their bloviators saying outrageous things that get fans jumping up and down, waving their arms and yelling. The content of what's said doesn't matter at all, as long as people jump up & down & wave & yell, because that means they're paying attention, which means the program / network can charge more for advertising.

2-The goal of coaching is consistent excellence. You can't control a weird bounce or a blown call, and you certainly can't win every game or title your fans think "we" SHOULD have won, but you seek to put yourself in a position to win. Coach Harbaugh does that well, and has done it through his career.

our O lines and QB play should be better than last year in every future Harbaugh year.  Last year's defense was insanely but when your offense is so bad it costs you the OSU game despite the defense allowing 3 (!!!) regulation points, there is a lot of room for improvement on that side of the ball.

I'm sorry.  Our offense may have allowed OSU to MAKE it a game.  But, the refs actually COST us the game.  One damn penalty against OSU, ignoring a slew of pass interference calls.  And the favorable left foot/right foot spot on fourth down in OT.  Honestly, you can't blame the offense or Harbaugh.  If that game had been in the Big House, we win easily and probably go to the NC playoffs.

can't win a conference championship in 4 years at a school where money and resources are no object, then it's my fault for having too high of expectations? Despite having the most draft picks (tons of talent) last year?

I realize as well as any person on this board that the 3 losses were razor close games and that sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way, but it's reasonable to have high expectations given the circumstances.

Is 10 wins a year enough to make everyone here happy? A conference championship once in a while?  I really am curious about the average expecatation of MGoBlog.

with their THIRD string QB.  MSU went into Columbus in 2015 with their backup and won anyway.  Injuries are no excuse.  Harbaugh had two years to coach up Morris and O'Korn and still could get a decent back-up game out of either of them.

As I noted above, teams win big games with their backup QBs all the time. We had a great defense and Iowa was only mediocre. But the coaches had zero confidence in Morris or O'Korn to even get 2TDs on the board, so they sent an injured Speight out instead, and it cost us the season. If we had won that game, we win the division and probably make the playoff, no matter what happened against OSU.

Sorry if my comment wasn't clear. I was only addressing his statement that if Michigan won at Iowa then we would have won the division. I was working under the assumption that result in Columbus was the same. So assuming result was the same all three of the east contenders would have had 1 conference loss. All losses were to each other so same record vs division. Penn state would have been eliminated due to an out of conference loss (winning percentage) and it would have moved to head to head and OSU goes. If we won in Columbus then yes we would have best record in the division and head to head wins over both OSU and penn state.
