Jashon Cornell decision date
He has this set for Aug 28 - which is his first high school game of the season. He has UM in his top group. Would be a huge get on the DL, but the tea leaves say nd has a big edge. Need to get him on campus this summer and won't have a game day weekend to impress him.
Cornell visited for the Michigan vs. Ohio State game last season, so at least he has that experience under his belt. Michigan didn't win, but it was an exciting game that came down to the final moments. As far as game weeks ago, nobody will have a chance to impress him. And as far as I know, M vs. OSU will be the last official game he sees before he makes his decision. So...there's that.
That date is not advantageous to UM as I think a lot of high end players this year will want to see UM show it on the field. There is not much extra UM can offer on Aug 28 v Apr 28 to sway a kid. And unlike other programs most top end kids are considering - the last taste of UM football was a 1-5 close to the year and a smashing by K State. Nov 28 would probably have served us better. And yes he seems like a heavy ND lean now.
But if we lose out on guys like Cornell early, but come out playing well and we have a great season...
#1 Oh well...
#2 I'll be happier than that camel on hump day
#3 We'll pick up some guys of equal talent later in the process
Well winning will solve a lot of issues on all fronts lol - coaching, recruiting, morale. Judging from what I read about McDowell he really heated up on MSU in November so obviously what has been happening on the field has negative outcomes 3-5 years down the road right now. Hand seemed 90% UM after UTL2 and now Harris, Campbell etc. And surely there are kids out there where UM is not even making the top 10 cut due to same issues, that we won't ever know if we had a chance for if they just had a chance to get on campus.
The team simply needs to put out a product worthy of these recruits - I dont expect to contend for the Big 10 title this year but anything worse than 3rd in the East is going to be a tough sell.
With all that said the team still gets top 10-15 classes almost every year and should be producing top 10-15 rankings. No excuses for talent acquired here in terms of competing for Big 10 championships.
But ND sucked last year too and lost their whole coaching staff..
Do we have any chance whatsoever or is this another pipe dream?
Michigan is considered to be in his top three, so I think there's a chance.
Haven't really had one since Graham. Frank Clark may get there this year, but it's been awhile.
That's my birthday. So there's no way he can commit to another school. That wouldn't be very kind of him.
Oh, great. Commit Shaun Crawford just tweeted "go (pro-ohio tweet)!" and deleted it.
There goes another one. I'll try to post a screenshot.
Don't know whether to up-vote or down-vote. I hate the information. Today isn't the best day. First the 502 bad gateway during my morning poop, then GR3, and now this.
"First the 502 bad gateway during my morning poop"
He's a kid and these things will all work out. Every twitter ripple need not become a wave.
If Michigan's defense plays well this year, we won't have any problems recruiting. If not, we have bigger problems.
@1ShaunCrawford: I didn't tweet that. Thanks @kleptobismal for that tweet. #prevtweet
If I was a high level recruit in this day and age I'd be such a damn troll on twitter watching a plethora of 30-50 year old men get so worked up to my every 140 character comment. I'd probably spend 30 minutes a day trying to work up very abstract comments that could be construed 20 ways.
But that's because I am sort of evil.
I'm 29.
The 2015 class is only two years younger than me.

I think I would put out something negative about each team i was considering (over time) to see how their fans react... sadly, this might make us (and everyone else) look crazy.

and pretty funny that the guy had "klepto" in his handle.
He was reportedly at Notre Dame this Saturday and Sunday.
is really reaching. Kids can see through that stuff.
See through what stuff? A coach's cool personality and ability to relate to them despite being around football for 50 years? Seems like a perfect combination. I dont think anyone is suggesting a recruit would choose a school based solely on a coach's musical tastes, but it obviously made enough of an impression that Cornell mentioned it.

see through what?
I am teacher. I listen to Jeezy. I don't play it for kids but they have either seen it on my computer or on my phone.
It has a positive effect to let kids know what you are on the same wavelength musically with them, but it's not likely to change their opinion of mattison, or me, either way; People like mattison and Mr. D cause we are awesome anyway (example of correlation, not causation).
love,

and he hasn't said much about UM since our recruit train derailed mid-season last year. We'll see i guess but I'd say gone.
Hate to be devil's advocate, but did anybody else notice his twitter bio change to no longer say anything about being a Mich commit? When all is said and done I think he's still blue, but I do believe he's going to explore his options
