Bye bye to Battle and Winston.

NO ONE SHOULD BE SAD ABOUT THIS.

Michigan is taking a risk by not settling for a good player who looks like he could fit very well at Michigan, but then again - what PG doesn't? We've seen big pass-first guards (Morris) succeed, we've seen small offensive-oriented guards succeed (Burke) and we've seen long slashing bigs succeed (Harris) as the offensive initiator.

Michigan HAS to take this risk. This program needs 5-star claiber recruits to get back to the Final 4 and the '14 and '15 classes didn't deliver them.  Michigan can't afford to give in yet and I'm glad they didn't. Battle/Winston are still legitimate options. Cumberland is a very high level Plan B but he's not Battle/Winston.  He doesn't move the needle on Michigan elevating the program to the next level. Michigan may or may not be able to find another player of Cumberland's caliber but they are better off keeping their options open.
