Potential flip? I would think so. Out of all possible flips, he's the most likely we've seen in a while, IMO. Per Steve Wiltfong, per Jared Wangler's tweet.
Jared Wangler visiting today
Check back in a few hours for the Hello post.
Steve Wiltfong says:
"Wangler tells me doesn't plan on making any decisions today."
So I'll check back here at 12:01 EST on 8/9/13 for a "Hello:" post.
Well he's the son of a Michigan great.
Also very happy with the last guy from PSU we flipped.
I hate revealing my ignorance, but who was the last PSU flip?
Since he said that he had to "talk things over with his family" after the offer, his brother is an incoming walk-on, and Dad is going with him on his visit- he's going to flip. If not today (I exect it), then very soon.
I met him last year along with John and he's a hell of nice kid. The Wangler family (and they bring a LOT of family FWIW) tailgates right behind us in the Blue lot. John's niece sort of adopted my wife and used to come over and hang out at our tailgate. One day she brought her brother and her cousin Jared over and introduced him to our group.
Great kid from a great family. I would be surprised if he didnt flip.
I predict Hello: Jared Wangler post within 12 hours
Going to wear some Wrangler Jeans in preparation for this commitment
Burn my eyes. I cannot believe that these types of things existed.
Those exact jeans are still hanging in my closet. I won't say how far in the closet. NTTAWWT.
Must be where the White Stripes got their idea for the De Stijl album.
which is why the argument that we should have all the fugly alternate unis "because the kids like them" is ridiculous. Kids don't know fuckall about what looks good. Why? Because they're kids. That's why adults need to be around.
While "being around" would you be wearing your old parachute pants?
I hear they are coming out with a crotchless pair of jeans...gonna call them Danglers.
You might want to spell his name correctly; it helps make a kid feel more welcome.
Also, buckle up.
Yeah I just can't see the kid not flipping. He can stay close to home, play in bowl games and most important, he can play for MICHIGAN!
If he's going to flip, I hope he waits until National Signing Day just to screw with Penn State.
That would be a classless move, and the Wangler family isn't like that.
It was a joke. If he waited that long, Michigan would probably find someone else before then, anyway.
Were you going to post that it was a joke had not someone said it was "classless" ? C'mon man.
It really shouldn't be necessary, for the reason I stated above.
C'mon, Magnus! This is exactly the kind of stuff that Mr. Rager is always raging about!
I like jokes.
Let the buckling commence!
I have the greatest respect for your points of pride, but I don't know if I would want my identity tied to my bra size.
Virtually all of the institution picks ("Crystal Ball") for Jared Wangler at 347Sports are flipped to Michigan at this point, with only 3 holdouts. (LINK). They list Mattison as his primary recruiter too.
MaxPreps has at least some of his stats from this past season HERE. It lists 45 tackles (15 solo), as well as 5.5 TFL, 1 sack for 16 yards, an interception and a fumble recovery. Very productive indeed, and looking at Penn State's roster, it seems they'll be losing even more valuable experience at LB after this year, so I can imagine Wangler flipping would sting some.
I almost feel bad for PSU's coaching staff if we flip Wangler, but thems are the breaks...
but they had to have known with his lineage that this could have been an issue at some point. Its not like this is coming out of nowhere...
Everyone better buckle up
I'm not trying to troll but this thought just came to my mind- is it not a little hypocritical for a coach to say that players who have committed to play for him cannot visit any other schools but other school's commitments are welcomed with open arms?
No. Other coaches are just as able to recruit out commits and invite them to visit. It's not their fault if the other coaches still consider their guys committed when they clearly aren't.
Thank you for handling
best post of the day.
Michigan doesn't pull a players scholarship offer. But if you want to look around, your spot is now available for someone else. It may not be there when you want to come back. It's a players risk they are taking. The coaches can't hold a spot until signing day and learn a player they thought was commited the whole time switched on them. Hoke just prepares himself for the worst possible scenario. I dont think there is anything wrong with that.
Thanks for a reasonable answer that provided some insight baran.
Is it hypocritical of me to accept $20 from a strange,r but then not want to give $20 out to a random person?
Plus, you get to take somewhere between 15 and 25 or so wives every year.
1) Verball commitments are of course "non-binding," so there is nothing to stop any coach from continuing to recurit committed players. It is up to the committed player to tell interested coaches to buzz off.
2) When a Michigan verbal offer is extended and accepted, it means that the coaches will honor that offer and no longer recruit other players for that scholarship opening, assuming of course that player does not visit other schools after accepting the offer.
4) If a verbally committed player vistis another school, then the coaches will no longer hold that scholarship spot for the player and the coaches will begin recruiting other players for that spot.
5) If that happens, then the once-committed player MAY still be recruited for that open spot, but the coaches will assess the circumstances under which the committed player made the visit to see if they are still worth that scholarship spot (ie. Dawson, yes. Pharoa Brown, no.)
6) Lastly, all of this is explained to the recruits before they make a verbal commitment so there is no confusion about the policy.
There is nothing hypocritical about it and lots of coaches have the same policy, including Mack Brown for example.
Great insight. But what's #3?
and D. ......
Although this has been addresses, I'll throw mine in the pot - the parent/ child analogy.
I have a neighbor who has daughters, and they won't let their daughters sleep over at other people's houses they don't know well. They will, however, let the kids of parents they don't know well sleep over at their house. They are looking out for their own kids, and if other parents have different rules, that's up to them. But it doesn't make that parent a hypocrite for allowing another kid to do something their kids aren't allowed to do.
247 has a headline showing "Instant Analysis of Michigan commit Jared Wrangler." Not seeing confirmation anywhere though.
If he signs, does anyone know how many more offers we have ?
This isn't directly related to the recruiting of Wangler, but does anybody know if there has been a list put out with all of the recruits for both football and basketball that will be in attendance for the ND game?
