James Ross III named defensive coordinator at Detroit Loyola
Sorry if this has already been posted, but OLake St. Mary's/Michigan alum James Ross III is Detroit Loyola's new defensive coordinator. Ross will coordinate the defense under first-year head coach William Tandy, who was hired in earlier this month (Link).
Here he is with a group of Loyola players on a visit to Western Michigan.

Congrats to the homie Biggs! He's a smart young brother and I'm sure the kids will find him adaptable.

And Harbaugh's master plan to put 1 Wolverine on every HS staff in America begins.
Will reach out to Pete Finebaum for commentary...

Pretty soon the NCAA will make a rule that players can't go to a school that their high school coaches went to.

Every linebacker in that program will be a super sleuth at diagnosing plays.

in turning out D1 players over the years?

Well there are 8 or 9 guys visiting Western in that pic so at least decently. Also, I believe that is where Malik Mcdowell is from as well.

he was at Loyola, yes.

A kid going on an unofficial doesn't say anything though. When I was in HS, I (a D3 caliber athlete) was able to go on an unofficial to an SEC school with a buddy who was actually being recruited by them (and ended up going there). If you're paying you're own way, a school will let you come visit.

a tough team gets tougher.
I thought losing Coach Callahan could hurt with "persuading" kids to Loyola. Ross will certaintly help that out though.
I said "persuading"; private schools and public city schools don't recruit, remember?

suburban public high school do more persuading than any other. you really think the north side of Livonia is THAT much more athletic than the south? or that Farmington Hills and Walled Lake are hotbeds of next level talent?

East Grand Rapids and Rockford called in from the 616 to say "hi"

we (CC) played Rockford in the 98 state finals and they had no next level players at all. they were just disciplined, tough, and well-coached.
much like CC their success is not proportional to their talent production.

D7 schools may be made up of several towns/villages. Comparitively, towns with multiple high schools could be considered cities by the rural area.
As for the question why Callahan left: My guess would be the unique hurdles at Loyola. As someone else has said, they practice on a small dirt field without lines. I believe their weight room is rather small. Also, Loyola has a co-op program so the students have jobs. Players may miss practice if they have to work. There was a really good article this past fall in either the Free Press or News that explained all this but I can't find it.

I'm 1000 miles away from Detroit, so I'm a bit out of the loop. But I saw he just took a coaching job at New Haven. New Haven has the capability to do alright, made the playoffs a few times in the mid-2000s, but right now they're a rather big mess.
Maybe he needs a new challenge, but it's a strange move. He was great at Loyola, and IMO doesn't need to apologize for any recruiting he did do. He helped provide those Detroit kids some opportunities.

still young enough to suit up during practice and show the kids how its done

With his power he could cause some serious damage. Not that he would but he can really bring the wood when he's square.

Are tough

Surprised to see this. Baltimore was saying great things about him in the pre-season, and no doubt OLSM would have a spot for him if he was looking, they currently have 5 alumni on their staff. Wonder if it's more of a placeholder why he gets over an injury.. If nothing else I would think he could play in other leagues. Regardless, he's a very smart young man, with a huge future in whatever he does, excited to see where life takes him.

I would guess that this job would be more appealing because it allows him to act as DC, vs. as a defensive assistant. Congrats to the young man.

Get out there and develop some great future Wolverines.

What was he doing last year?

Believe he was on a practice squad

He goes from practicing at Glick Field house to Loyola' practice field witch is dirt and stones next to the school. It's bare bones. But they lift weights like crazy and ball out! Biggs will bring some great knowledge to those boys

Congrats to Biggs. Hopefully he can turn this into an opportunity to join the staff at Michigan soon.

I hope you have a very successful coaching career.
