James Franklin wishes other B1G schools and Notre Dame would allow Penn State to move on.

Not sure if yardbarker is banned or not, but they posted an article where Franklin is quoted as saying:

" I'm in Chicago at a wedding of one of my former players and the most recent things (allegations that late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno was told that Sandusky abused children in the 1970s) come up. I spend all Friday and Saturday on the phone talking to all of our players because other schools are contacting them and telling them the NCAA is going to get involved again and impose more sanctions… The people we’re competing with – Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame – this is just not something they have to deal with. Although we want to move on, those other schools are not letting us move on."

He goes on to say...

"Those programs as well as others know that and use that against us. We have that conversation with every single prospect. We don’t usually initiate it, but it’s coming from somewhere."

Does Harbaugh need to negatively recruit against PSU? No. Am I happy he does? Yes.

Here is to a thousand years of Penn State being trashed for allowing children to be raped on their campus by a football coach, and covering it up.

It's terrible that kids might be told that by choosing to attend PSU they are entering an environment that worships a pedophile enabler. Just terrible.

I still want them thrown out of the Big 10. They do not deserve to reap the financial rewards of the conference. If some other conference wants to take on their scum, let them have them.

I'm a co-op at J&J in New Jersey I work with many kids currently attending PSU. They don't care about the scandal it's completely swept under the rug in their minds. They all think JoePa is a saint. Still.

The Penn State football program is already a smoldering tire fire - of their own making.  Other schools don't have to negative recruit them.  Besides, all he does is make insinuations and vague references.  He doesn't bring up one concrete occurence with specifics.   The Penn State recruits are just being smart and doing their due diligence.

the perceptions/perspectives people hold of him, because his seat is getting warm. Float excuses to seat blame externally for your failure Coach, good choice. And fuck you, fuck PSU, and all of their delusional supporters. .

One of the many, many, many things I like about our coach is that his recruiting seems to be very focused on our team, our school, and the future opportunities players could have if they play football for Michigan.  I've read enough comments from enough different recruits that I'm confident this is the case.

I think Franklin is stupid to even bring this up and complain.  Great move, James-make your program part of yet another news cycle, and bring up the possibility of further sanctions.

To me, it seemed like he was comparing Penn State to those schools and saying they don't have to deal with that specific tyoe of negative recruiting from other schools, not that those were the ones actually doing that negative recruiting. But they obviously could be if they're both going after the same recruit.

But it is clear that he accused every school he mentioned of negative recruiting.

"Those programs as well as others know that and use that against us."

I'm fine with every school in the country negative recruiting against PSU and Franklin is the last coach with a right to complain about it, no matter where he's employed.

There will be a dozen "Fuck Penn State" jokes on here, but in all seriousness Penn State should have done the following:

They should have shut down the program for a year.

Reboot and start again.

They should have used that time to completely clean house and change the culture.  Give everyone a chance to step back and gain perspective.  Admit their error in word and deed.

Then they should have started again clean with a new regime.

They would then have a clean clear separation with the abuses of the past.  They would be able to move on without the chronic shadow of more revelations, more sanctions, more negative recruiting.

The problem they have now is that it has all been one continuous muddy shameful event with no end in sight.  They should have put a stake in the ground, done their time, and separated from that.

I grew up in PA and followed Penn State since childhood.  My brothers and many friends all went to Penn State.

This is what I tell them.

Admit your error in word and deed.  For God's sake, stop tryiing to cover it up and act like nothing happened.  We all know what happened.  Stop making excuses.

Paterno flat out betrayed you.  So why are you so loyal to him?

Separate from him and move on.  Penn State is more than just one guy.  He does not get to define the entire institution unless you let him.
