but I was hoping that the truly top notch recruits, committed or once, would wait until we hired our HC before going elsewhere. I think Weber is going to osu or msu but I hope he truly doesn't make his mind up before the AA game if it's not UM.

With the exception of 2-3 players, I've written most of this class off.  If we can get a coach by week 1 or 2 of January, we may be able poach a few ourselves.

Edit:  Sorry for the dreaded DP.

the level of hire will determine our class. Kinnel & Newsome both said they committed to the school but I think Kinnel is gone. Again, the crap silver lining is the class is so small. Any coach will get the numbers but the level of player will be determined by the level of coach.

but I think he kinda needs Hackenberg to go pro next year. Franklin is a mobile QB guy, running a multi-pro offense. He likes to go from read option to 5 wide to power all in the same drive. CH is a non-threat to run & he's an old school pocket guy. BoB would have had him the top pick in the draft had he stayed. Under Franklin, I think we'll see a lot of heavy WR formations and 40 throws a game next year. The sooner he has a QB that suits him the better but it's a problem I'm glad he has lol

BoB was smart enough to get out and get paid before sanctions hit. Their OLine is going to be every bit as bad as the recent Michigan ones in the coming years. You can already see Hackenberg getting worn down from being repeatedly clobbered just as Gardner was by his final year.

Then again, he did take Vanderbilt to bowls all three years he was there (granted, they backed into the Liberty Bowl with a 6-6 record in 2011), but at a program where going to bowls in consecutive years is somewhere up there with inventing warp drive and reanimating the dead, it was not a bad job by any means.

Then, of course, there was this year....point taken.

There will be a lot more of this until a coach is locked in.  More often than not, recruits sign with a school because they like what the coaching staff told them or because the "bagman" is better than at other schools.  Michigan is already at a handicap not using a bagman.  Now their recruits know that the coach they wanted to play for is out the door.

Michigan needs to make the hire quickly and make the right hire.  I don't know if they can afford for this class to really suck.  They need to generate the kind of excitement that opens doors to recruits' homes and makes them and their parents optimistic about the future at the University of Michigan.
