Uh............so this kind of came out of left field.

And then they just added 4 actors to the show today.

Jalen Rose could be heading from the basketball court to your television screen.

ABC has greenlit a comedy pilot, “Jalen Vs. Everybody,” starring the former NBA star and ESPN personality, Variety has learned.

The hot project hails from the team behind ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.” Nahnatchka Khan wrote the pilot and will executive produce with Jake Kasdan, Melvin Mar and Mandy Summers. Aside from starring, Rose will also serve as a producer. Khan’s Fierce Baby banner is producing in association with 20th Century Fox Television and ABC Studios.

The half-hour single camera comedy follows Rose, as he juggles his career responsibilities with the challenges of being a single dad.

The pilot order marks the final comedy pickup from ABC for the 2017-2018 season.

Khan and Rose have worked together before — the sports player guest starred on”Fresh Off the Boat,” appearing in one episode. Other than that small gig, “Jalen Vs. Everybody” will mark Rose’s major foray into scripted television.

There isn't one person in this country who has a good idea for a sitcom.

I'm reminded of:  And joining us in the booth this evening, big fan of BASEketball, Tony Nocholino, who plays, as you know, Latino cut-up "Scooter" on the new hit comedy series "What's the Difference?" airing between "Recycled Junk" starring Lisa Campbell and "Same Old Crap" featuring teen heart throb Mark Swenson, all part of the great fall lineup on our network's "Who Gives a rat's ass?" Thursdays.

Powerless that just started a few weeks ago is pretty funny.  Santa Clarita Diet on Netflix is also very funny, if weird.  Brooklyn 9-9 has been the most consistently entertaining comedy on Network TV for a couple years.  There's a few good sitcoms out there, but they're much more few and far between than back in the day.

The best new sitcoms over the past 10 years do not have studio audiences, like Modern Family or VEEP.  I'm not sure why that is, but it feels that way.

On the flipside, I became more of a fan of dramedies during that same timespan.  White Collar, Burn Notice, etc. have taken off.  Usually the good ones were only on Showtime or HBO.

I just started Legion of fx.  Looks like it's going to be a winner.  Nothing else until GoT has piqued my interest.  I am rewatching Burn Notice on Netflix also.  Just finished season 2, and yes, it is just a fun show.  I also just finished Person of Interest on Netflix.  That was an amazingly underrated show.  Absolutely loved that one.

Jake Kasdan, son of Lawrence.  Originally from Detroit.

Jalen carries the entire "Jalen and Jacob" show, I'm sure I'm biased, but he's a great listen with really interesting insights into a lot of topics.  I can absolutely see him being engaging in a sitcom format, provided he can act of course.  He's great in front of a camera, but that's different.  Probably worth a flyer for the network.

Late substitution for "Izzo and the Weird Guys vs. Dakich", which was pulled due to lack of moist towlettes.

I'm not holding my breath but who knows?  Jalen is a charismatic guy.  I'm surprised to hear it will be a single cam show.  I generally prefer those to multi cams but correlation, as always, does not necessarily imply causation.

Will Charles Barkley be a featured player stopping by with Steve Urkel-like frequency and unwelcome abruptness?

I also want to see Shaq as a house guest who sleeps on the sofa for days at a time.

Jake Kasdan is a UM graduate and the show's executive producer, so..yeah. He also directed the Dewey Cox Story, which is one of my favorite parodies. So hopefully him, Jalen's charisma, and the Fresh Off the Boat people can make this a good one.

an awkward sense of humor that works well on tv, with a good cast I can see him succeed. Sadly TV shows live and die off the cast not 1 star always.
