Jalen Rose Puts Webber on Notice
Time for him to "grow up" amongst other things, intimates Webber doesn't stay in touch at all and avoided group at NC game.

Same shit, different day.
February 20th, 2014 at 5:19 PM ^
They can't even fucking spell his name right on their website? "Weber" - I mean, come on. Pathetic.
February 20th, 2014 at 5:22 PM ^
Seems like CWebb wants to move on from that part of his life and Jalen can't handle it. Just let it go Jalen.
If CWebb wants nothing to do with Michigan so be it and I'm sure Michigan will be fine if CWebb wants nothing to do with the univeristy.

The Great David Brandon has intimated that Webber will not be welcomed back without an apology.
February 20th, 2014 at 6:18 PM ^
He could write a big check without an apology.
February 20th, 2014 at 7:43 PM ^
If he does maybe they can name timeouts after him. "30 seconds to go and Michigan calls its final Chris Webber and Family time out for the game."

Too soon.

go away fab 5. you are an embarrassment
February 21st, 2014 at 9:58 AM ^
no, your classism is an embarassment.
the fab five were and are awesome.

The "endowed" Chris Webber University of Michigan Head Basketball Coach.

I would forgive him.

You mean Webber
February 20th, 2014 at 8:35 PM ^
the 89 team >>>> the fab 5 team. they actually won something. there have also been many UM teams that won the BIG and made final fours. have they all been "honored".
plus, didn't they have a 20th anniversary "honor" for them last year? i also think it's a slap in the face of the other players on that team who played significant roles to the success of those teams.
and i couldn't care less about webber anymore. if he doesn't want to show, good riddance. UM has plenty of other good representatives out there.

Jalen does a pretty good job of recognizing the Fab 5. The university probably couldn't add much after Jalen is done hyping himself and the Fab 5 up every chance he gets.
February 20th, 2014 at 5:35 PM ^
Jalen was asked a question and he answered it.

These dudes all need to move on with their lives, and we do too. This shit was 20 years ago. They're retired from the pros. They have real jobs. How many other 40+ year old guys remain so fixated on their college career, no matter how good or controversial it was?
February 20th, 2014 at 5:48 PM ^
It's common, I would imagine, for a lot of star athletes to fixate on their fleeting careers. It's why some of them turn into Joe Namath--making drunk passes at women less than half their age. It becomes their identity because nothing else has brought them as much notoriety.
Just a slightly heightened version of Al Bundy and his four touchdowns in a single game.

How many people do you know who are still fixated on their HIGH SCHOOL careers (sports, the girls they should have asked out, music, classes, parties attended, whatever) let alone college?

We're fortunate to have Jalen Rose representing our university the way he does.
If all former players cared about UM and tried as hard to stay connected as much as Jalen, it would be a great thing.

There is a paper that is typically not seen favorably but for this purpose does have some direct quotes from the interview.
Regarding Webber's non-participation in the "30 On 30":
“For whatever reason, Chris wasn’t inclined to hang out with us.That was his choice. I still love him. That’s still my brother. He doesn’t owe us anything. But there’s clearly a disconnect, and it’s unfortunate. But it is what it is.”
On the chances of healing the rift:
“I think there’s a chance for it to get ironed out one day, but until it is ironed out, I guess it’s going to be like it is right now. You can’t cry over spilled milk. Whatever happened 20 years ago ... I would think, eventually, it’s time to mature and let it go. Unfortunately, Chris, at this point, hasn’t let it go.”
I did listen to it as well, and he reiterated the position that the University should honor the Fab Five at some point in some manner as well.

Speaking of letting things go, Jalen...
February 20th, 2014 at 6:21 PM ^
as part of the fab five. I can see why the other guys would, but it's inevitably an occasion to talk about what might have been. Webber was the team's brightest star, but also the focal point for their biggest disappointments. I can see why he would prefer to just leave that in the past.
February 20th, 2014 at 8:45 PM ^
again. He and Jalen may have their own completely good, and different, reasons for their stance. It's Jalen who's wearing the thing out, though.
February 20th, 2014 at 5:52 PM ^
Jalen needs to come out of his shell.

What does Jalen think about Larry Foote cohosting a radio show with Mike Valenti?
February 20th, 2014 at 6:15 PM ^
This issue has been talked about enough.
February 20th, 2014 at 6:17 PM ^
The difference is that these were players who were young and made bad decisions. Tressel was a sociopathic cheater at every stop who fostered a cheating environment. The Michigan players broke the rules behind the school's back, whether it was knowing ignorance or not. The equivalent would be Michigan celebrating Steve Fisher at a basketball game, and even then it's debatable how much Fisher knew, but that has still NEVER happened. So I will continue to call a spade a spade and Ohio is still Ohio, a school that has cheated in football and basketball, knowingly.

When/if c -webbs ready I'm sure Jalen will be the first to know.
February 20th, 2014 at 6:23 PM ^
We have a winning team full of kids doing things the right way. Enough with the Fabs trying to get themselves back into the conversation.
February 20th, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
The only difference being, the worst member of the Fab Five is still better than anybody that we have on the roster today.
I actually think that Chris Webber & Jalen Rose are the most talented players to ever wear the Maize & Blue.
That group of guys was truly once in a lifetime. I'm just glad I got to see it happen. It was great to be a UofM fan back then.
