Jalen Rose named Ambassador for NBR(etired)PA

He's been tapped to raise the profile of the organization, which counts 700 former NBA, ABA, Harlem Globetrotters and WNBA players as members.

Hopefully we can create some awareness, some planning, a decision-making mechanism from top to bottom – whether it’s social, emotional or financial – so you’re prepared for that next step.

Story from NBA.com

Jalen gave a follow up interview and talked a little about the organizations secondary mission to give charitably to youth basketball and got a little plug in for his charter school:

In addition, my personal focus on educating young people is well-aligned with the NBRPA. The NBRPA's Dave DeBusschere Scholarship Fund provides opportunities for former players and their families to access higher education, while my greatest philanthropic undertaking to date – the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy – is an open enrollment, public charter high school on the Northwest side of Detroit that provides a leadership-focused education that engages and inspires youth to achieve at the rigorous level necessary to ultimately graduate with a college degree.

Jalen being named to this leadership position for the NBRPA.  IMO, it's an organization that could use his help in having a higher profile---I've never heard of the NBRPA until reading the OP.  How many of us knew of the organization or the fact it also represented former Globetrotter, ABA,  and WNBA Players?

Regarding Jalen himself, though, I've enjoyed watching over the years as he's progressed from being a high-profile high school recruit to being a member of the Fab 5, and then on thru his NBA and post-NBA career.   I think he's represented his community and the U of M very, very well over the last couple of decades, he's a Michigan Man we can and should all be proud of.  I sometimes get the feeling that the blemishes he got from being one of the Fab 5 have overshadowed all the good things he did back then and ever since.
