It's great that he wants to call out Jalen and ask him what he was?!?  Are you kidding me?  Jalen only led the #1 high school team in the country!  Congrats Skip for proving your worth.

Jalen sure puts Bayliss in his place.  I love how Bayliss was trying to question Rose's credibility by asking him what Rose played and then Rose asks Bayliss to confirm what his senior and junior scoring stats were.  1.4 ppg.  LOL.  Loved it.  Surely those 21 points were all in garbage time too.

I know it was in response to Skip's ludicrous banter, but I really hate when athletes pull the "you've never played" card.  There is very little correlation between the ability to play a sport and the ability to comment on or coach a sport.

For reference I submit Tiziano Crudeli, the best commentator in the history of commentary.

Jalen kind of smudges the line between empathy for athletes and understanding a sport.  The two are not mutually exclusive nor are they collectively exhaustive.  He is wrong in his assertion that you need both to be a commentator; you don't.  You also don't need to have played a sport to have empathy for the athletes that do.  A better argument for Jalen would have been to cut to the chase.  Skip is a poor commentator because he just says dumb shit.  Skip has no empathy because he is an ass.  These would serve his argument better than "You never played."

You need to understand the whole context here.  Jalen isn't saying that Bayless can't understand basketball because he didn't play it.  Actually, Bayless was calling out Jalen for not understanding the PG position because he supposedly was a shoot-first point as a player.

This came just a few days after Bayless, after arguing that Russell Westbrook shouldn't play point guard, "backed up" his argument on Twitter by claiming that when he in high school, he was a star PG but was benched by his coach for shooting too much.  So Jalen here is a)  calling him out on that absurd lie and b) pointing out what a hypocrite Bayless is for advancing the "You can't understand the game if you didn't play it right" argument.

This link has all the Bayless tweets in them:

You're right.  I mistakenly watched a video (which I incorrectly linked in this thread right below my post) and assumed it was a part of the same ordeal.  It was two years old and I based my argument off that video.  If you watch the video, then my argument makes sense, in the context of the current topic it really doesn't.  I agree with what you wrote.

I'm sorry if I confused anyone, I need to not be so hasty when I post.

That tool Jay on that show always making it sound like he went to OSU, dream world for those guys. Skip only averaged 1.4 more points per game than me.Bring back Woody.

and he IS pretty much running the show over there. The lack of any real journalism or anything resembling a "sports related morning show" is why Dana Jacobsen asked to be re-assigned within ESPN.  Apparently Michigan grads have higher standards for their life's work. Good for her!

Discovering that he averaged 1.4 minutes per game doesn't necessarily mean that Skip wasn't trigger happy. He could have thrown up 20 shots a game and just missed 19 of them. But he's still a tool and doesn't honestly believe the things that come out of his mouth because nobody is that big of a moron.

Skip Bayless, you watching the show and telling others to watch is not going to make him disappear.  They are called pundits.  They spew verbal diarrhea for a living because people like us eat it up (gross, pretty disgusting analogy?!).  I say us because, though I admit I don't watch the majority of that garbage, I won't make myself seem high and mighty as if I've never gotten into a terrible debates and arguments etc..  But the point remains, quit getting your undies in a bunch over the sh*t these guys say.  They don't believe half of it themselves; they do it for RATINGS and $$$...

Note: I didn't bother listening to/watching this.  Utter-waste of time.  We should ALL know better by now.

But you really can't question his sports knowledge for someone who wasn't an athlete. You might now always agree with his opinion, but he knows more about sports then 95% of people on this blog guranteed. I actually kind of feel bad for him there. I love Jalen and I met Jalen in person in Detroit but I feel like it was kind of a personal shot he took on him.
